Undrafted out of college isn't the worst thing that can happen to a college baseball player. The Independent Leagues continue to be a solid resource for players who want to continue to pursue the once impossible dream. Cam Kneeland of the Trois-Rivieres Aigles is a prime example. Undrafted out of UMass-Lowell, Kneeland signed on with the Worcester Tornadoes of the Can-Am League after his senior season where he hit .363 in 47 games and was named Recipient of Lester H. Cushing Award, Daktronics Division II Baseball All-East Region First Team, NCBWA All-East Region Second Team, ABCA All-Region First Team and NE-10 All-Conference First Team. At the conclusion of his collegiate career, he left as the River Hawks' all-time leader in average (.325), doubles, (44) and RBI (144). In his first season with the Tornadoes, he appeared in only 47 games batting .236 with five home runs in 157 at-bats. Upon completion of the season, Kneeland was traded to the Quebec Capitales, and promptly sent to the Aigles for a player to be named later. What happened in his first-year with the Aigles is what every player hopes for. A career year has earned him a professional contract with the Baltimore Orioles, and a Can-Am League Rookie of the Year award to boot. In Kneeland's first full season, he led the team in a variety of categories that included; average (.306), at-bats, (372), hits (114), doubles (29), and RBI (62). His numbers were also good enough for league recognition. He ranked in the top five in three offensive categories, which earned him Rookie of the Year honours. Very impressive for the Aigles who were also named Organization of the Year in the their first full season in the league. Devon is the Founder and Executive Director of The GM's Perspective.
