Kleinknecht is in his second year with the M-Braves Barrett Kleinknect is a utility player with the Mississippi Braves who attended Francis Marion University in Florence, SC.   The Braves drafted him in the 12th round of the 2010 First Year Player Draft. Barrett’s first year in MILB was spent between Danville and Rome.  He appeared in 53 games for Danville and 6 for Rome in 2010. Kleinknecht was sent to Rome for the start of the 2011 season.  His good play saw him get promoted to Lynchburg after only 30 games. 2013 is Barrett Kleinknecht’s 2nd full year in Mississippi.  He only appeared in 49 games last season and already surpassed that total this year with the M-Braves. This season Kleinknecht is batting .255, with 5 HR, and 27 RBIs. There is no other way to describe Kleinknecht than a real class act.  I really enjoyed the opportunity to ask him a few questions. Barrett, I want to thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions with Atlanta Bullpen. Q: After 4 years in Braves farm system, what has your experience been like playing with the Braves? Barrett:  The Braves are not only a premier big league team, but an organization that is filled with nothing but professional people.  Everyone in this organization wants every guy to be their best. Q: I’ve always heard that MILB season was a grind.  What motivates you to give 110% everyday? Barrett:  The motivation to give 110% every day is that it’s baseball.  Yes, it can be a grind but we have a chance to play baseball at the highest level. Q: What has been the biggest improvement you have had to make to your game? Barrett:  The improvement that I have had to make is the mental aspect.  A utility guy like my self does not get the opportunity to play everyday, so mental toughness is a necessity if I want to be successful. Q: How did you get your start in baseball? Barrett:  Just like everyone probably, I started playing baseball when I could walk.  My dad was my high school coach and he was/is a hard-nosed coach, so he always pushed me and encouraged me to be the best.  Since I can remember I always wanted to play pro ball so it’s so surreal every day Q: This is your 2nd full season in Mississippi, how have the coaches there helped you? Barrett:  These guys along with teammates and our coordinators have helped me tremendously.  They have taught me how to approach the game mentally.  They also taught me how to go about everyday business in a professional manner. Q: You grew up in Florence, SC so did you grow up a Braves fan?  What was it like to get drafted by the Braves? Barrett:  I think all of SC is filled with Braves fans, haha.  I actually liked the Braves growing up, but the Cardinals were my team. It was almost like a dream when I found out I was drafted, because you work so hard your whole life for an opportunity.    When I finally got it, it was like a huge weight lifted from my shoulders. Barrett, thanks again for answering some questions for Atlanta Bullpen.  I wish you the best of luck as you continue your season with the M-Braves.
