Found April 10, 2012 on Rumors and Rants:
Back when “Moneyball” was just a book, Barry Zito was a good pitcher. A lot of things have happened since that time, especially in the form of earned runs, hits and walks issued by Zito. But on Monday, Old Barry Zito unexpectedly returned to the mound for the Giants at Coors Field. Zito pitched his first shutout since April 18, 2003 in leading the Giants to a 4-0 win over the Rockies, snapping a string of 274 consecutive starts between shutouts. Unsurprisingly, Zito’s streak between shutouts is the longest in baseball history — most guys don’t get a chance to go that many starts without one before getting jettisoned. However, since the Giants signed Zito to an albatross seven-year, $126 million contract in 2007 that option has never been exercised. Zito has never had a winning record in his time with San Francisco, but he finally pitched like the guy the Giants imagined they were getting in throwing the first shutout by any visitor to Coors since 2008. Are we witnessing a career re...

Barry Zito’s Golden Goose Eggs

Barry Zito was terrible at pitching. He probably still will be bad at pitching. But today was marvelous. The Rockies are still asking when the game starts. 9 IP, 4 H, 0 BB…0 BB When the Giants starters gave up 14 ER in over 15 IP, it looked like Coors Field was the last place the Giants would want to be. It turned out to be how they got off the schnide…schneid…snide? Whatever...

Breaking: Barry Zito Pitches Shutout, Hell Freezes Over

We have confirmed reports right now that every level of hell is indeed freezing over.  This is of course pushing hellfolk refugees riding on the back of Cthuhlu to the surface world where they have been quoted as hoping to “bring a new age of darkness to Earth.”  All this took place after an event which many apocalypse theorists claim is the “harbringer of doom to the world...

43 Things expected before Zito's shutout

Gosh, baseball is a screwy game. You can watch it for more than fifty years, pour over box scores in all that time, read experts until the cows come home, pour over projections and even seek out roto-experts for what players should perform and STILL be amazed by what happens. This writer has accumulated over 2,700 posts on baseball on this site and others. Never in a million years...

Line of the Day: Barry Zito

Barry Zito pitched a four-hit shutout to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 7-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies in Denver. It was his first shutout since 2003 and gave the Giants their first victory of 2012. Line: 9 IP| 4 H | 0 ER | 0 BB | 4 K; W (1-0) | QS | CG | SHO My fantasy perspective: So, Zito did something to get noticed by fantasy baseball owners and it wasn’t something...

Barry Zito leads the San Francisco Giants to their first win and embarrasses the Colorado Rockies

Barry Zito shut out the Colorado Rockies this afternoon to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 7-0 win. This is not a joke and April Fool's Day was eight days ago.Giants' fans have ridiculed and laughed at Zito's bad starts for the past few years. They have seen him pitch horrible games and make so many bad wild pitches.Every season, Zito would say he would get better...

SF Giants Rumors: Zito The Stopper, Posey Gets The Day Off and Today’s Lineup!

Opening weekend has come and gone! Who would have thought that the San Francisco Giants would score 14 runs in three games, and still not have a win? Last year 14 runs in two weeks would have been good for them.   There is still 159 more games to go, so don’t stress about the start of the season. The pitching will come around and all these runs will turn into wins! Today’s Game...

Barry Zito Shuts Down Rockies, Leads Giants to 7-0 Win

Barry Zito threw 53.2 innings last year; and he was terrible. From racking up strikeouts (5.4 K/9) to avoiding walks (4.0 BB/9) to keeping the ball in the park (1.7 HR/9), he did nothing well. The results, accordingly, were ugly: a 5.87 ERA, a 5.60 FIP, and a 4.65 xFIP. In a month, he’ll turn 34. And he looked awful this spring (16 hits allowed in his last 5.1 innings!). My expectations...

Zito's 4-hitter leads Giants by Rockies

Barry Zito threw a four-hitter for his first shutout in nine years and Pablo Sandoval hit a two-run homer to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 7-0 win over the Colorado Rockies on Monday. Zito (1-0), who hasn't lost to Colorado since Sept. 25, 2008 -- a span of nine starts -- allowed three harmless singles and a double. He didn't walk a batter and struck out four in tossing...

Projecting the Series: Giants vs Rockies

The Giants have gotten off to a bit of a poor start and turn to Barry Zito to attempt to right the ship and get the team the first win of the season. The big problem is that my projection model says that the odds of that happening are pretty poor but on the bright side it also said that the odds of the team scoring 16 runs in a four game series was also very low. ...

Barry Zito Dominates in Giants 1st Win

Barry Zito threw a complete game shutout in his 2012 debut as the Giants get their first win of the young season. Zito sure did pitch like a $126 million pitcher today finally! It was also his first shutout and complete game as a Giant, and his first since 2003 VS Texas. No one expected Zito to be the first pitcher in the rotation to collect a win. He sure looked way more relaxed...

Zito tosses first shutout in nine years to lead Giants over Rockies

Pablo Sandoval continued to swing the hot bat and Barry Zito pitched a complete game shutout as visiting San Francisco snapped a three-game losing skid with a 7-0 win over Colorado on Monday. After getting swept by Arizona in their opening series, the Giants avoided their first season-opening four-game skid since 1950.Zito (1-0) recorded his 10th career shutout and improved...

It's early, but get excited

After yesterdays incredible pitching performance by Zito, and the offense's 10 hit 7-run beating on the Rockies, you can say this 2012 Giants team looks nothing like last years team. It's only one win and there are 158 more games to be played, but the way the Giants played yesterday is what all us fans and critics in San Francisco have been waiting to see out of this team...

Giants-Rockies Preview

The San Francisco Giants are in danger of their worst start to a season in 62 years. Sending Barry Zito to the mound for the first time in 2012 may not help them avoid that dubious fate. Zito will try to put another disappointing season behind him and help the Giants avoid their first 0-4 start since 1950 when they visit the Colorado Rockies on Monday night. San Francisco (0-3...

2012 Fantasy Baseball, Daily Fix: Yu Darvish Debuts, Barry Zito's $19 million game

Yu Darvish (credits below) Yu Darvish didn't pitch his best in his first career MLB start, but he still walked away a winner as the Rangers knocked off the Mariners.  The Ranger bats came alive as they beat up rookie Hector Noesi and put 11 runs on the board. As for Darvish, he gave up all five of the Mariners runs in 5 2/3 innings, mowing down just five and handing out four...
