Found November 18, 2011 on MLB Trade Rumors:
Nine years ago today, the Marlins, Rockies, and Braves swung a three-team, eight-player trade. Colorado send Mike Hampton and Juan Pierre to Florida in exchange for Charles Johnson, Preston Wilson, Vic Darensbourg, and Pablo Ozuna. The Marlins then flipped Hampton to Atlanta for Tim Spooneybarger and Ryan Baker. The $103.5MM left on Hampton's contract was spread out between the three clubs, with the Rockies paying $30MM, the Marlins paying $38MM, and the Braves paying $35.5MM. Colorado saved $26.3MM with the deal, and Florida saved $9.2MM. We've got a large collection of links this week following the GM meetings. Here's the latest from around the web... Rising Apple explained two ways the Mets could keep Jose Reyes: a contract with lots of incentives, or a back-loaded deal. Marlins Maniac tells us why signing Reyes makes sense for the Marlins. Monkey With A Halo says things are complicated between the Angels and C.J. Wilson. Harness The Halo thinks ...

Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria cheered, jeered after rebranding

On NASCAR duty through the weekend, but will try to keep you guys up to speed on Marlins stuff. Came across a couple of diametrically opposed articles regarding Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria that I thought would be a good springboard for discussion. Nathan Vardi at Forbes had an interesting blog post on Loria in which he credits him for getting the stadium deal done. In the lead, he...

The Miami Marlins added four players to the 40-man roster on Friday.   The four minor leaguers added were Ramon Benjamin, Dan Jennings, Tom Koehler and Kevin Mattison.   With the new additions, the Marlins have 39 players on the 40-man roster as they continue talks with multiple free agents.    The players were placed on the [...]

Are The Marlins For Real?

The news this week that the Miami Marlins had offered Jose Reyes a six year deal worth roughly $90 million sent many Mets fans, myself included, into a panic. However, having had a few days to digest the news has allowed me to take on a bit of a different perspective. That new perspective was aided by the news that the Marlins have since offered a nine year deal worth $225 million...

The (Florida) Miami Marlins are insane to offer Albert Pujols over $200 million dollars

I was going to comment on this reported offer yesterday, but I had to let this set in for a at least a day. The Florida/Miami Marlins reportedly offered former St Louis Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols a nine-year, $225 million dollar contract. Are they out of their minds? Yes, I understand the ownership wants to make a big splash next season when they roll out their new,...
