Raise the Jolly Roger!:
Kansas City Royals
Every win is enjoyable, but this one really meant a lot for the Pirates. It was a back-and-forth contest on the road with the division leader, and they ended up pulling it off in improbable fashion to win the series (their fourth in a row) and complete a winning road trip. Awesome.
For some reason, all the Pirates wins on this road trip started off pretty poorly. This game was no different, as the entire Bucs lineup went down in order against Mike Leake during the first three innings. On the mound, Kevin Correia was bailed out by a nice Jose Tabata throw to the plate to save a run in the first, and surrendered a solo shot to Jay Bruce in the second.
The Pirates came right back, though, and were much better against Leake the second time around. It was kind of startling, actually – the first five Bucs to bat in the fourth all smoked the ball. Alex Presley and Neil Walker put a run on the board with back to back doubles, then Andrew McCutchen singled Walker to third and Garrett Jones ...

CINCINNATI For most of this season, Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker hasn't had to reshuffle the deck and ask for a new deal when it came to his position players.
He did lose veteran third baseball Scott Rolen to an always-lurking shoulder problem and Brandon Phillips encountered hamstring issued, but grinned, bore it and played through it.
Now, though, an issue has arisen...

Negron played every outfield position in the minors. He batted .212 with five homers and 15 stolen bases at Louisville.

The Bucs are home from their successful road trip for a very short three-game homestand, and it should be a fun one on the North Shore. There’s really no reason why PNC Park shouldn’t be packed for all three games – the team is on fire, the weather should be good...
Prior to his NL MVP season in 2010, there were many baseball fans who had never heard of Joey Votto. The Reds first baseman is one of the best hitters in the National League, and he’s off to a hot start once again this year even after signing a whopping 10-year, $225 million extension. In addition to a .315 career batting average, Votto’s career has also been highlighted by some...
Chapman, warming up before a spring training start in Scottsdale
Is Aroldis Chapman the best pitcher in baseball?
According to the F12 Rating, he is. Chapman has a 32.960 F12, almost two full points ahead of the second ranked pitcher, Gio Gonzalez.
Dusty Baker and the Cincinnati Reds have made the hard-throwing Cuban their closer, and Chapman has excelled. His fastball famously...

"Well, that's the secret of any winning team," Reds manager Dusty Baker said before Thursday's 5-4, 10-inning loss to Pittsburgh. "You have a tremendous amount of depth and there...

The Pittsburgh Pirates have enjoyed some home success during interleague play in recent years.
That likely won't make it easy for the Kansas City Royals to end their road struggles against NL opponents.
Looking to continue that interleague and overall home success, the Pirates open a weekend series against the Royals on Friday night.
At 82-132, Pittsburgh (29-27) has the majors...
