Mike Baxter, a native of Whitestone says the Mets were always his first option once he became a free agent when the Mets removed him from the 40 man roster to make room for their revamped pen.

His loyalty may land him a spot on the roster as the Mets never acquired a left handed bat for the bench and while they could still grab one during spring training, Baxter now gets the chance to prove they don't need one.

“They were the front-runner immediately,” said Baxter, the 27-year-old outfielder from Whitestone. “And that was it. Because I want to be here.” source NJ.com
