BEST OF MAXIM
The big question regarding Kirk Nieuwenhuis is, “Is he the Mets center-fielder of the future?” The skeptics would say no, that he doesn’t possess the pure blazing speed required to play the position in the major leagues. But is it necessary to be a “burner” to play CF effectively?
Although having plus speed definitely helps to make up for mistakes, it is not a requirement...
We’re all likely familiar with the cliché’ “There’s no time like the present”, and the old worn out saying carries no more meaning today than when talking about the Mets’ outfield situation.
It’s not good.
But as with everything else, there’s room for improvement, and quite frankly, when talking about the 2012 Mets, it won’t take much.
After the Pagan/Torres trade...
The New York Mets (7-3) defeated the Atlanta Braves for the fourth straight time this season (5-5) by the score of 6-1. The New York Mets have won 7 of 10 to kick off this season.
Dillon Gee pitched great tonight. He allowed just one run on four hits, while striking out five. Dillon Gee is now 1-1 with a 2.92 ERA so far this season. He is really looking like the first have Dillon...

2) Kirk Nieuwenhuis will go back to Buffalo and not remain in a reserve role.
Looks like Mike Baxter’s job is very secure.

Mets are just spoiling us with all this offense including the homeruns. Ike Davis with a three-run homerun to break the game open, and after Jason Bay robbed the Braves of a homerun, hit one himself deep in center field for a solo shot and an insurance run. Broken fingers seem to be helping the Mets.
Dillon Gee had a great start this afternoon allowing only one run on four...
Here’s a beautiful shot from our new photo partners of center fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis making a sensational leap and grab off the bat of Brian Schneider in today’s 5-0 win over the Phillies. You can click it to enlarge.
Here’s a question to ponder…
What do we do with Kirk Nieuwenhuis once Andres Torres comes off the DL and expects to claim in spot in center field?
For the past 3 years, the Mets have been searching for a magical solution to enhance their offensive output. After David Wright returned from a fractured pinky to blast a home run in his first at-bat, Jason Bay took notice and jammed a finger of his own. During his first game back tonight, Bay proved to be a key player in the Mets victory. The New York Mets (7-3) defeated the Atlanta...
The Mets travel down to Atlanta tonight to take on the Braves for the second time this year. In the first meeting this year, the Mets took all three games on their way to their quick start to the season. Recently, the Braves have Larry back in their lineup and are riding a 5 game win streak, pulling up to a game back behind the Amazins, and 1.5 games behind the Braves. The Mets will...
