BBDP MVP: Jose Campos

Triple-A Empire State: L 3-12 to Buffalo. L: Betances

Ray Kruml: 0/2, K (.100)
Francisco Cervelli: 1/3, R, BB, K (.111)
Brandon Laird: 2/4, L (.200) He’s 4 for his last 14 (.285). Also had his 3rd error in the young season though.
Colin Curtis: 0/4, K (.227)
Dellin Betances: 3.1 IP, 7 H, 8 ER, 6 BB, 3 K, 3 HR (10.8 ERA). Yikes. This is not what you want to see out of your number two prospect.

Double-A Trenton: W 10-1 vs Portland. W: Shaeffer Hall. H: Ryan Flannery

Abe Almonte: 0/4, R, BB, 2 K (.273)
Ronnier Mustelier: 2/4, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, BB (.316). He’s old, but I’m starting to think this guy could be a legitimate help to the major league team. He’s hit at every level so far and shows no signs of stopping. He is an excellent contact hitter who doesn’t strike out much, and he can play many positions. He’s got utility guy written all over him.
Dan Brewer: 1/5, 2 RBI, 2 K (.250). Batting in the 3-hole tonight.
Cody Johnson: 1/5, R, 2 K (.375)
Melky Mesa: 1/4, R (.250)
“Boilin” Zoilo Almonte: 1/1, R (.409). In a pinch hit appearance.
Walt Ibarra: 1/4, RBI, K (.222). He also had an error.
Addison Maruszak had a big day, going 2/4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI.
Shaeffer Hall: 7 IP, 4 H, ER, 3 K (3.27 ERA). Looked much sharper in this start.
Ryan Flannery: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER (3.00 ERA)
Ryan Pope: 1.0 IP, H, 2 K (6.00 ERA) His rough first outing is inflating his ERA. He’s looked better and better each time out.

High-A Tampa: W 2-1 vs Clearwater in extras. W: Nuno (1-1). S: Montgomery (2)

Eddy Sosa: 0/5, 3 K (.182)
Kelvin Castro: 0/5, K (.250)
Ramon Flores: 1/5, R, 2B, K (.136)
Rob “Seggy” Segedin: 2/5, R, 2B, HR (2), RBI, 2 K (.320). 8 for his last 16 with 2 HR.
Kyle Roller: 1/5, RBI, K (.125)
Nik Turley “Bird”: 6 IP, 7 H, ER, 3 BB, 4 K, HR (1.64 ERA). Nice start from him, now if only he can limit the walks.
Francisco Rondon: 3 IP, 1 BB, 7 K, 0 ER. Holy K rate… beastly outing.
Mark “Monte Python” Montgomery: 1 IP, H, 2 BB, K (5.4 ERA). Second save of the season.

Low-A Charleston: W 11-5 vs Augusta. W: Campos (2-0). This is the run production I was expecting.
Mason Williams: 1/4, 2 R, 2B, BB, SB (2), CS (1) (.250)
Ben Gamel: 2/5, RBI (.235). 3 for his last 8 (.375).
Dante Bichette Jr.: 1/5, R, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 K (.280)
Tyler Austin: 2/5, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI, K (.286). Starting to pick it up.
Gary Sanchez: 1/4, BB, K (.300)
Casey Stevenson: 1/3, 2 R, BB (.500)
Angelo “Bubba” Gumbs: 2/5, R, 2 K, E (.125). First two hits of the season, nice job!
Anderson Feliz: 3/4, 2 R, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI (.353). Having a nice start to the season.
Jose Campos: 5 IP, R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K (0.00 ERA). Dominant

Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and outfielder Andruw Jones were spotted at Chazz: A Bronx Original this afternoon when they went out for a little bit of lunch. Here they are posing with the restaurant’s manager Peter Stala. If you happen to run into any Yankees this season or have some particularly good fan photos from Yankee Stadium this season, please email them to me rob...

Venditte on the doorstep to the majors

If you have the opportunity to take in a minor league game involving the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (or the Empire State Yankees for the 2012 season), you may notice something that will cause a double take.  Should No. 58 trot out to the pitchers mound, you might want to pay attention because you might see something that hasn’t been done but once in baseball’s modern era...

Kuroda Worried About His Stadium Opening Start

From Andrew Marchand:Hiroki Kuroda has never played in Yankee Stadium. So when he throws the first home pitch for the Yankees a little after 1 p.m. on Friday, he will have more nerves than anything else. "Rather than being excited, I'm more worried about how I'm going to perform," Kuroda said through his interpreter. ... "Since I've never pitched...

Pineda continues throwing, waits to get into a game

Michael Pineda spent some time playing catch under the watch of Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild, who helped him with a few things mechanically, last week. This week he has been doing long tossing program. There is no word on when he’ll get back on the mound, but that seems like the next step that everyone is waiting for. The first step to getting on a mound would be...

New York Yankees Fragrance Review, Pt 2: For Him

As I mentioned in my previous post, the Yankees will be unveilling their new fragrances at today's home opener at the Stadium. I loved New York Yankees For, the women's fragrance, but I also wanted to write about the men's fragrance, simply called New York Yankees. The fragrance's description reads "New York Yankees Fragrance epitomizes the winning style of...

Smells like vomit: New York Yankees fragrance coming to nostrils everywhere

Smells like misery That rancid smell wafting towards your nostrils? Yes, that’s the new “New York Yankees” fragrances for him and her that are on sale at Yankee Stadium and Macy’s starting this month. Pardon me…just threw up a little bit in my mouth. No, we’re not kidding. As if we needed to be exposed to the Yankees brand anymore. It’s really hard to speak about. I...

BBDP April 12: Austin hits two bombs, Charleston rolls

Triple-A Empire State: W 7-2. W: Delcarmen (1-1) Kevin Russo: 2/5 (.316). Russ doin what Russ does. Francisco Cervelli: 0/5, R, K. Damn! I thought he was gonna start hitting again. Steve Pearce: 1/3, HR (1), R, RBI, 2 BB, K (.333). He’s hit like this before in the minors, but never for a full season. He’s been pretty good so far. Maybe even better than you would expect out...

A-ROD Playing a Drag Queen?

New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has been approached to play a drag queen in an upcoming indie movie on Spanish painter Salvador Dali.  The producers of The Surrealist which will star Alan ******* think that A-ROD would be a great fit as Dali's social secretary Potassa who is a leggy drag queen.  The Surrealist director Philippe Mora told the NY Post that "...

Young Yankee fan dances in blue bodysuit at Camden Yards (Video)

A young New York Yankees fan dressed in a blue bodysuit was seen dancing it up Tuesday night in the stands of Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore. Your browser does not support iframes. The young fan went home happy that night as the Yankees won the game 5-4. However, the game went 12 innings, so hopefully the game didn't end too far past his bedtime. Video via...

Bisons Power Past Yankees In Blowout Fashion

Buffalo, NY – It was a record breaking day for the Bisons in their home opener as they dominated the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 12-3 in front of an announced 10,905 fans at Coca-Cola Field. The 12 runs broke the Bisons previous record for runs in a home opener, a 10 run outing in a win over Pawtucket in 2003. While the bulk of the runs came in the fourth inning, the Buffalo...

Is David Robertson the most dominate reliever in the league right now?

I know that the season is just beginning, and that players are just beginning to get the feel for the game again, but what I saw from David Robertson yesterday definitely blew my mind. Even though he only pitched one inning and struck only one hitter and walked one, I could see how every hitter looked helpless when facing him. His pitch location was perfect and his fastball was...

Forget Retirement, What if Mariano Struggles?

I’ve decided that I have been spoiled. Not by material goods but by the Yankees. Through numerous accolades and world championships, nothing has been more impressive than seeing one of the greatest pitchers of all time, Mariano Rivera. I don’t think there is anything Mariano Rivera can’t do? Think on it and let me know if there is something, within reason, he has yet to accomplish...

The Crackle Wonders: Marty Appel

If you’re a Yankee fan, you know Marty Appel.  He’s one of the franchise’s great historians.  So, who better to write an account of the franchise’s long history? Pinstripe Empire: The New York Yankees from Before the Babe to After the Boss will be released next month. We talk about the monumental task of writing a team history, his personal experiences in Pinstripes and...

Yankees Pitcher Freddy Garcia Better Be Scared of Andy Pettitte Taking His Spot After Wild Night in Baltimore

In the movie Major League, Ricky Vaughn (played by none other than Charlie Sheen), came out to the song Wild Thing by The Troggs. That was partly due to his personality, but also because Ricky had a little trouble throwing strikes. in Major League Baseball, Mitch Williams took that role, and adopted the same song for similar reasons. After last night’s poor performance...
