TEAMS: Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox announced yesterday that Josh Beckett would miss his start on Sunday and that Franklin Morales was scheduled to make a spot start in his place. Beckett is experiencing shoulder inflammation in his right arm. As of yesterday, Bobby Valentine reported that it wasn't a DL issue yet. However, that is no longer the case since the Sox announced today that they have decided to DL Beckett and call up Clayton Mortensen in his place. Bobby V indicated that the DL stint is precautionary in some ways since Beckett could pitch if it was necessary aka in a post season game. Beckett going to the DL does highlight one thing, the lack of pitching depth of the Red Sox. Daniel Bard doesn't seem ready to be back. Aaron Cook isn't ready to back. There aren't any real MLB ready arms in Pawtucket.
I'm crossing my fingers Franklin Morales.

Red Sox to Give Josh Beckett's Shoulder Time to Get Well (Video)
The way Josh Beckett had pitched lately, it might be a little bit of a surprise to hear that the right-hander was added to the 15-day disabled list on Saturday. The official diagnosis is shoulder inflammation, but the Sox certainly don't sound all too concerned, or have indicated that Beckett might be out for a prolonged period of time. That would certainly be a blow to a rotation...

Josh Beckett's DL Stint is Precautionary, But Gives Franklin Morales Chance to Prove Himself As A Spot Starter

A day after skipper Bobby Valentine explained his plan to sit Josh Beckett for at least one start -- due to inflammation in his right shoulder -- the team was forced to place the pitcher on the 15-day disabled list. It shakes up the starting pitching situation just a little more. Nearly a week and a half ago, the Red Sox optioned starter...
Red Sox News & Notes - 6/17
With Josh Beckett out for at least the next 15 days, the Boston Red Sox are going to need Jon Lester to pitch like we all know he's capable of doing. Well, he got things started with a good outing on Saturday night in the Windy City.
Lester allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out eight in 6.2 innings and get some solid help from the bullpen as the visiting...
Salty Brings A Much Needed Win to the Sox
With Josh Beckett on the DL, we needed Jon Lester to be an ace more than ever. Lester has pitched well his last few times out, but has gotten little to no run support. Lester needed to have a quality outing and he needed the bats to back him up. The game ended up being closer than we'd like, but that just what happened.
Lester looked great for most of the outing. He...
