On Thursday in San Francisco, Matt Cain's perfect game remained the hot topic of conversation, but Giants first baseman Brandon Belt deserved a mention or two himself.

Belt, who homered in Cain's 14-strikeout masterpiece the night before, has homered in three consecutive games overall -- though he started the day on Tuesday with zero homers to his credit this season.

He hit his second career "splash hit" into McCovey Cove on Thursday, a two-run shot in the fourth inning of the Giants' 6-3 loss to the Houston Astros. It was the first Splash Hit by a Giants hitter this season; the team had not shown a lot of power at home this season until this week.

Belt also gained attention Thursday for his quick thinking the night before. He took the throw from third baseman Joaquin Arias for the final out, and he carefully tucked the ball in his back pocket before rushing to join the celebration around Cain. Belt said he later gave the ball to Cain in the clubhouse, jokingly requesting a Corvette in return.

Cain got to keep the ball; the Hall of Fame took his hat and glove after the 22nd perfect game in major league history.

There was a less happy note from Wednesday's celebrations; first baseman Aubrey Huff fell and bruised his right knee while climbing over the railing to get from the dugout to the field. Huff required an MRI on Thursday.

Manager Bruce Bochy had planned to use Huff as the DH at AL parks in upcoming games but he told reporters Thursday he might have to scrap that idea based on the knee injury.
