The Phillies announced that center fielder Ben Revere will be out indefinitely after breaking his right foot in yesterday's game against the White Sox.
As reported by Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com,
"Revere fouled a ball off his foot in the bottom of the 11th during Game 1
of the Phillies’ Saturday double-header with the White Sox at Citizens
Bank Park, a 5-4 loss."
later, he grounded into a game-ending 5-4-3 double-play, nearly beating
the throw to first while running on a broken foot."
"Revere, 25, will see a foot specialist on Monday, the Phillies said. He’s expected to go on the 15-day disabled list."
With Revere out, John Mayberry Jr. should get the bulk of the playing time in center field. Revere has been playing excellent baseball since the beginning of May and will be tough to replace. He has batted .347 in that time, which is sixth best in baseball over that time period.
Revere, in his first season with the Phillies, is a career .285 hitter with 96 stolen bases in 342 games. This season, he is batting .305 with 17 rbi's and 22 stolen bases in 88 games.
