Carlos Gomez launched a home run off of Paul Maholm during the first inning of the Brewers and Braves game on Wednesday, and the stroll around the bases got a bit weird. Gomez hit the home run and it looked like he stared at it a bit too long for Bravesâ catcher Brian McCannâs liking. The jawing continued as Gomez rounded the bases and eventually he came face to face with Brian McCann before he could touch home base. The two stood toe to toe, and the benches each poured out on the field as the two teams engaged in some extracurricular activity. Not a pretty scene at all. Just two batters in, Wednesday night's game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Atlanta Braves took a turn nobody saw coming.
Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez homered off Braves starter Paul Maholm and stood and admired his shot a bit too long. Looking to get back at Maholm for what he felt was an intentional plunking back in June, Gomez said a few words to the left-hander...
Brian McCann got more than his share of air time in the 24 hours after his nose-to-nose confrontation with Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez that fueled a benches-clearing fracas Wednesday night.

Yeah you can't do that Carlos Gomez. You also can't do that Brian McCann.
This one certainly appears to be mostly on Gomez but you have to wonder whether something preceded all of this. Gomez almost vengefully swung for the downs on the pitch before he homered and looked quite agitated when he missed and almost fell. One gets the idea that something motivated Gomez's...

Warning: Be prepared for an angry rant about a stupid decision from a not-so-smart baseball player. Before reading this, make sure to watch the video (courtesy of mlb.com) of what happened.
Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez ignited a bench clearing brawl with the Atlanta Braves in the first inning of Wednesday night's game at Turner Field when he took a bit too long to admire his home run before jogging the bases.
Gomez hit the ball deep to left and watched it for a few seconds before one of the Braves (either catcher Brian McCann or first baseman...

With Carlos Gomez potentially facing a suspension, the Brewers will try to spoil the New York Mets' return from a successful road trip Thursday night.

The Brewers' Carlos Gomez and the Braves' Reed Johnson have each been suspended one game after a benches-clearing argument between their teams.
Both were also fined an undisclosed amount Thursday.
In the top of the first inning Wednesday in Atlanta, Gomez homered off Paul Maholm, still furious the Braves starter hit him with a pitch three months earlier.
Gomez stood in...
Carlos Gomez was ejected from the game yesterday when he showboated a little too much on a home run. While it was unnecessary, I fail to see why baseball players get so upset about a guy admiring a home run. Showboating is accepted in football and basketball, but the "unwritten rules" of baseball, most of which are complete nonsense, don't allow for it. Gomez standing...

Funny how one night after Carlos Gomez goes into "Falling Down" mode after hitting a home run off Paul Maholm, David Wright gets beaned in the head by an errant changeup by Johnny Hellweg. This of course would give Wright full rights to salsa around the basis the next time he hits a home run off Johnny Hellweg. And if you know me at all, you would think that I would have...
