ST. LOUIS -- Lance Berkman was born, raised and resides in Texas so he looks right at home in a Texas Rangers uniform. But there is no doubt part of his heart remains with the Cardinals. This was obvious from watching Berkman hold court with his ex-teammates behind the batting cage Friday before the Rangers and Cardinals started their three-game series at Busch Stadium. He was treated like a family member who returned home as player after player came over for a hug. As he joked with several, Matt Holliday came up from behind, wrapped his arms around him and lifted him about two feet off the ground. A bear bug for a brother. "It's kind of like the first day of school when you get to see all your friends you haven't seen in a while," Berkman said. Berkman is expected to be limited to pinch-hitting this weekend, partly because of knee and "general body soreness" (he had a cortisone shot Thursday) and partly because the DH doesn't play in St. Louis....

Perfect throws lead to perfect win for Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rangers saved their best for last in Thursday's win over Oakland. Two perfect relay throws by center fielder Craig Gentry and shortstop Elvis Andrus made for an easy tag for catcher A.J. Pierzynski at home plate to end the game. The 4-3 win wasn't always a thing a beauty as it dragged out for three hours and 39 minutes, but the Rangers found perfection...

Teammates running out of new praise for MVP front-runner Molina

ST. LOUIS -- Cardinals players have been asked so often to describe Yadier Molina that they're all out of superlatives. When he does something now to win yet another game, they look at each other and shake their heads like the rest of us. "He's a joke," Matt Carpenter said Wednesday night. "The guy is that good. You can't say enough good things about him...

Cardinals rookie Michael Blazek captures elusive debut

ST. LOUIS -- Shortly after a major league debut that surely felt delayed, Michael Blazek stood in front of a nearly-empty locker and described a feeling of relief. "It's good for your confidence just to get out there, no matter how you do," the 24-year-old rookie reliever said. "Just getting your feet wet is probably a bigger deal than anything." Blazek...

Kelly gets Cardinals starting job, Lyons demoted

A day after working five scoreless innings in relief, Joe Kelly got promoted to the St. Louis Cardinals rotation. They're still figuring out when they'll need their new fifth starter. James Ramsey homers for 3rd time in 4 games – 6/21 Farm Report

The Baby Birds finished the night with a 4-2 record as Memphis and Palm Beach were the only losers. Oscar led the way for Memphis in the loss with 3 hits. I believe it will take a significant injury in St. Louis for Taveras to get called up. Jacob Wilson returned from the disabled list and homered in his second at bat. I’ve said it before, but Wilson has to be the surprise of the...

ST. LOUIS -- Kyle McClellan called in a favor. Shortly after he signed the only baseball contract he's ever had with a team not named the St. Louis Cardinals, the right-handed reliever who wears that recognizable red beard searched the Texas Rangers' schedule until his eyes found a three-game series in late June. "I saw that I was going to have a chance to come back...
