Miami Marlins beat writer Joe Frisaro reports, that the blind bids for Cuban phenom Jose Dariel Abreu are due on Saturday.
The Marlins are considered heavy favorites to land the slugging first baseman, who many compare to the Phillies’ Ryan Howard in his prime.
Frisaro says that it will likely take between $45-60 million to land the 26-year-old Cuban native. According to a source, the Giants are also considered a favorite to land his services.
Marlins officials said that Abreu showed an easy swing, and the ball exploded off his bat, saying he’s more of a pure hitter than Stanton, who has the edge in raw power.
Abreu, 26, is free to sign with any club, but Andy Martino cited a team source who said it’s highly unlikely the Mets would be interested, despite an earlier report that a high ranking official telling Mike Puma they were impressed with his power.
