Raise the Jolly Roger!:
Other than a briefly-terrifying (but apparently not serious) injury to Andrew McCutchen, today’s game was pretty darn awesome. The Bucs got a big blast early on, a solid pitching effort, and a series win in St. Louis…with a chance to sweep tomorrow afternoon.
The game started out with two quick outs, but McCutchen and Garrett Jones singled to keep the inning alive. Neil Walker walked, bringing up Pedro Alvarez with the bases loaded. El Toro came up huge with the bases loaded last night and looked very comfortable, as Lance Lynn worked himself into a 3-2 count (thanks to a friendly call to Pedro on the 2-1 pitch). Then he absolutely grooved the payoff, and Pedro absolutely destroyed it over the bullpen in right field. 4-0 Bucs.
That was the Pirates’ first grand slam of the year, and Pedro’s second for his career. His weird day/night splits continue (he’s now hit 12 of his 15 homers in day games) but in general he still looks to be locked in–even after the totally insane two games i...

Major League Baseball announced the rosters for the All-Star Game, which will be held in Kansas City on July 10th. CF Andrew McCutchen and closer Joel Hanrahan will represent the Pirates.

For the second game in a row, the Pirates dominated the Cardinals. They won 7-3 – their fourth in a row – and could sweep the Red Birds today for the first time since late in the 2008 season. It’d be the Bucs third sweep of the year and the Cards’ third time being swept this year.
But it could be a little more difficult to broom the Cards today since Andrew McCutchen won’t...

Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen, who was named to the 2012 N.L. All-Star squad on
Sunday, has been voted the National League Player of the Month for June.
The rosters for next week’s All-Star game have been released, and two Pirates are on the list. That’s one more than we usually see before any replacements start coming in — but not not quite as many as we were hoping for this season.
Andrew McCutchen was a lock to make it. It’s pretty sad that he only finished 7th among NL outfielders in fan votes, but I’d have to think...
The Pittsburgh Pirates return home from a successful trip hoping two of their key players will be back on the field.
It's uncertain if All-Star center fielder Andrew McCutchen and third baseman Pedro Alvarez will be in the lineup Monday night when the Pirates try to hand the struggling Houston Astros a season-high seventh straight road loss.

The Pirates taking 2 of 3 from the Cardinals is never a bad thing, but they had another great chance for a win yesterday and let it slip away in the 5-4 loss. Andrew McCutchen had the day off so his sprained wrist could recover, and with no Cutch, you better hope that you can get some good starting pitching. That didn’t happen.
Erik Bedard struggled…again. He only made it...
Final: Pirates 14, Cardinals 5
WP: Kevin Correia (4-6, 4.32 ERA)
LP: Adam Wainwright (6-8, 4.75 ERA)
The Pirates started off the game on the right track with two runs in the first inning following a Jose Tabata single, Andrew McCutchen double, and a Neil Walker single. But Kevin Correia was unable to hold that lead giving up a run in the 3rd inning and four more in the 4th.
Pedro Alvarez hit a grand slam in the first inning off suddenly scuffling 10-game winner Lance Lynn and Andrew McCutchen had two hits before leaving with a sore left wrist, helping the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-3 Saturday for their fourth victory in a row.

Here's a running list of injury updates around the Major Leagues:
– Indians' Lonnie Chisenhall will be out for at least 10 weeks after surgery in his right forearm according to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com.
– Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen tweaked his wrist on Saturday, but according to Michael Sanserino of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette he told manager Clint Hurdle and...
What a fun game to watch. In honor of John Wehner’s birthday, the Pirates pounded out nineteen hits and scored 14 runs. Kevin Correia’s start wasn’t great, but it was all the Buccos needed. The scoring started early with a 1st inning 2-run single from Neil Walker. Andrew McCutchen was just a triple short of [...]
