Billy Beane’s Draft History After looking at what the Astros fans could expect in the 2012 Draft from new GM Jeff Luhnow, I decided to look at Billy Beane and his history of drafting college players. Beane is known for drafting college players and for his tirade in Moneyball for his team taking Jeremy Bonderman in the 2001 draft. Here’s a year by year look at the players Beane took as a GM (starting with his first draft as GM in 1998)… Note: The numbers might be slightly off for 1998-2001, as I haven’t found a reliable source for signing information from these years; Baseball America has great information for 2002 on.) 1998 43 picks - 14 High School - 4 Junior/Community College - 25 College 38 signed (88%) - 13 HS - 2 JC - 23 C 7 MLB – 18% of signed draftees 93% of the HS players they drafted signed. Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin says there is a ''50-50'' chance suspended slugger Manny Ramirez will join the team when his 50-game drug ban expires Wednesday. (Eds: With AP Photos.) By TIM DAHLBERG AP Sports Columnist The state of Rhode Island is having trouble collecting some of the millions it lent former pitcher Curt Schilling, another reminder why chasing celebrity is almost always a bad thing. Brandon Inge’s Second Rare Feat

During the 2011 postseason, I wrote about Brandon Inge and the unusual circumstances of his season with the Detroit Tigers. In post entitled Brandon Inge’s Rare Feat, I explained that: Based on my research, Inge appears to be the only player in the past 10 years with more than five years of major-league service who was designated for assignment, then was recalled by the major-league...
