ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- Minnesota right-hander Nick Blackburn is set to rejoin the Twins' starting rotation Tuesday night. Blackburn felt a cramp in the back of his right shoulder April 14 against Texas. He threw a 52-pitch bullpen session Sunday. Blackburn said he didn't feel any discomfort while throwing and doesn't foresee any lingering issues. Boston right-hander Josh Beckett is the scheduled starter for the Red Sox on Tuesday, which is the second game of a three-game series.

Willingham's hit streak ends; bullpen strong

Minnesota Twins left fielder Josh Willingham took a 15-game hitting streak into Sunday's series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays. But that streak came to an end Sunday as Willingham went 0-for-2 with a walk in Minnesota's 6-2 loss. The 15-game streak tied him with Kirby Puckett for the longest hitting streak by a Twin to start the season. Puckett accomplished the feat in...

Pavano's start a relief, but not enough

The Minnesota Twins entered Saturday with the majors' worst earned-run average from their starting pitchers. With opening day starter Carl Pavano going to the mound, Minnesota was looking for a little relief fromits starting pitching. Pavano matched Tampa Bay Rays all-star pitcher James Shields for five innings, giving the Twins the starting pitching they've needed for much...

Liriano to skip Saturday start in 'step back'

MINNEAPOLIS Apparently, taking a step back means skipping a start for Minnesota left-hander Francisco Liriano. After Liriano gave up five runs in five innings in Sunday's 6-2 loss to Tampa Bay, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said the team would "take a step back" regarding what to do with Liriano. Gardenhire announced before Monday's game that Liriano's next...

Lack of confidence has Liriano struggling

It's beginning to sound like a broken record. For the fourth time this season, Minnesota Twins left-hander Francisco Liriano was shaky. Liriano has allowed five earned runs per outing in all four of his 2012 starts. The latest installment came in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays that left Minnesota with a 3-4 record on its East Coast road trip and raised Liriano...

Former Twins infielder Luke Hughes was claimed off waivers Sunday by the Oakland Athletics. Minnesota designated Hughes for assignment on Wednesday to free up a roster spot for pitcher Jason Marquis. Twins' missed opportunities are adding up

MINNEAPOLIS With a loss Monday to Boston, the Minnesota Twins are now 5-12 on the season. Believe it or not, though, there have been plenty of opportunities to add to the win total. Perhaps no opportunity was greater than Monday's series opener against the Red Sox, which the Twins dropped by a 6-5 final at Target Field. Minnesota had the go-ahead run 90 feet away with no outs...

Twins LHP Liriano to be skipped in rotation

The Minnesota Twins have decided to skip Francisco Liriano's next start, giving the struggling lefty extra time to get back on track. Liriano will throw bullpen sessions Thursday and Saturday before returning to the starting rotation May 1 against the Los Angeles Angels. Manager Ron Gardenhire said Liriano will not be used as a reliever in the meantime. Liriano is off to a...

Greener Pastures, Probably Fewer Boos

It's bad when a road trip following a rainout is good news, but the Sox should have some success against the Twins, who probably are what their record says they are. (The Sox are better than their record -- no, I haven't lost it yet, they are.)After three games in Minnesota, they head to the Windy City for four. That will be tougher; Chicago is 9-6.Pictured: Denard Span,...
