Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun was not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros because he is bothered by blisters on his left hand. Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said the blisters have bothered Braun for a while, which may be why he went 2-for-17 with six strikeouts in the first four games of the team's homestand. "He's got some blisters on his hand that he's been fighting with for a few days now, and doesn't seem to be getting any better," Roenicke said, according to "So we gave him a day. He tore it up pretty good about a week ago, and they've been trying to get it back together and get it healed up. But sometimes, especially with one-armed follow-throughs, with the deep [blisters], sometimes it's hard to get rid of them." The Brewers hope Braun will return to the lineup on Tuesday. Braun is hitting .309 with 28 homers and 70 RBIs. Nyjer Morgan started in left field for Milwaukee on Monday.

Braun, Brewers still looking to playoffs

MILWAUKEE This is what the Brewers had expected all season long. After dropping a season-high seven games in a row just last week, Milwaukee had been desperate for something positive to happen. And on Wednesday, the Brewers got their wish -- albeit a bit too late -- as they swept the Astros in convincing fashion. It was just the second sweep of the season for Milwaukee, and its...

Welcome to Off Topic Week

Do I know how to plan a week to not talk about the Brewers or what? After the Brewers just went 1-9 over their last ten games and traded away one of their most reliable players there is pretty much nothing I'd like to write about less than the Brewers right now. (Especially after Sunday's game. Jeesh.) Yes, I still think that 2013 is going be awesome and we'll return...

Norichika Aoki gets infield single after ground ball hits rosin bag (Video)

Milwaukee Brewers right fielder Norichika Aoki got an infield single on what should have been a double play ball during Saturday's game against the Washington Nationals after his ground ball up the middle hit a rosin bag in the back of the pitcher's mound. Your browser does not support iframes. It happened in the bottom of the third inning with one out and a runner...

A's acquire Kottaras from Brewers

The Oakland Athletics have obtained catcher George Kottaras from the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade for minor league reliever Fautino De Los Santos. The deal was announced Sunday, shortly before the Athletics faced the Orioles in the finale of a three-game series. The 29-year-old Kottaras will join the A's in Oakland on Monday. Kottaras hit .209 with three homers and 12 RBIs...

Astros beaten handily by Brewers

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Aramis Ramirez and Corey Hart each hit a three-run homer and the Milwaukee Brewers pounded the Houston Astros 10-1 on Wednesday. Ramirez had three hits and four RBIs, including his 13th homer of the season in the third inning. Hart hit his three-run shot in the fifth, his 20th homer. Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo (9-8) went seven innings, giving up one run and...

Brewers seek redemption against lowly Astros

There are still two months left in the season, but the Milwaukee Brewers aren't giving any indication that they're going to make a move up the standings. The Houston Astros' recent bevy of moves show they're certainly looking toward 2013. Milwaukee will try to avoid a 10th loss in 11 games Monday night at Miller Park while the major league-worst Astros look to win...

Brewers fire bullpen coach

The Brewers fired bullpen coach Stan Kyles and promoted minor league pitching coordinator Lee Tunnell. Kyles had been with the team in that role since 2009. "It is important that we make every effort to try to improve our bullpen performance," Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said in a statement. "While Stan is not solely responsible, I felt that this change...

Brewers 8, Astros 7

Cody Ransom's homer capped a four-run burst in the eighth inning and the Milwaukee Brewers, after firing their bullpen coach, held off the Houston Astros 8-7 Monday night. The Brewers dismissed Stan Kyles before the game, then watched their shaky relievers barely preserve this victory. Milwaukee scored four times in the seventh for a 4-3 edge, but the Astros tied it in the...

Three umps in arguments at same time

A play in the sixth inning of the Milwaukee Brewers' game against the Washington Nationals on Sunday resulted in three of the four umpires involved in separate arguments at the same time. The Brewers led, 3-2, and had the bases loaded with one out when Norichika Aoki laid down a squeeze bunt that was fielded by Washington starter Gio Gonzalez. Gonzalez made a quick, off-target...

Braun hits 29th HR as Brewers sweep Astros

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Ryan Braun hit his NL-leading 29th homer and the Milwaukee Brewers connected four times Wednesday, beating the sloppy Houston Astros 13-4 to complete a three-game sweep. Rickie Weeks and Cesar Izturis each homered in the fifth inning. Jonathan Lucroy added a two-run shot in the seventh, helping rookie Mike Fiers (5-4) win consecutive starts for the first time this...

Nats' Morse hits tying HR, go-ahead double in 11th

Michael Morse hit a tying, two-run homer in the ninth inning, then delivered a two-run double in the 11th that sent the Washington Nationals over the Milwaukee Brewers 11-10 on Sunday. Bryce Harper drew a leadoff walk from Jose Veras (3-4) in the 11th and Ryan Zimmerman singled. One out later, Morse doubled down the left-field line for an 11-9 lead. Morse's homer with one out...
