Found November 14, 2012 on Mets Merized Online:
Can you smell it? Take a whiff… It’s the smell of millions of Yankees fans across the globe crapping their pants. The Yankees keep getting older and older, and the other AL East teams keep getting better and better. The Yankees are on the brink of being in the middle of the pack in the AL East, and the fans are going to be out of their minds screaming for Josh Hamilton now. Yankees fans weren’t the only ones upset after the news of the blockbuster trade between the Marlins and Blue Jays broke. Giancarlo Stanton tweeted about how upset he was, which is understandable, because nobody wants to be the guy left behind. He must feel like Burgess Meredith in that episode of the Twilight Zone when he was the only man left on earth. Well, I guess Meredith’s character was actually pretty happy to be the only one left, until he stepped on his glasses. But you get the point. The great news about this trade is it looks like the Mets are pretty much guaranteed to not finish in last place in 2013....

R.A Dickey’s Journey To The Cy Young And His Significance To The Mets

I remember the details. I’ve always been able to remember details. I will never be a Hall of Famer and will never lead the league in strikeouts, and am in no imminent danger of joining the 300 Victory Club. -”Wherever I Wind Up: My Quest For Truth, Authenticity, And The Perfect Knuckleball” by R.A. Dickey Robert Allen Dickey became the first knuckleball pitcher to capture...

Who Was The Mets Most Valuable Player In 2012, Wright Or Dickey?

There wasn’t a real lot to rave about when you consider the Mets 2012 season as a whole, but even in an 88-loss season, there were a few bright spots. We had our first No-Hitter in franchise history, we saw one of our top prospects breakthrough in a big way, and one of the Mets’ longest held traditions finally returned – Banner Day. There were also two remarkable performances...

RA Dickey Wins Cy Young, Fans Still Torn About Trade Talks

Now that RA Dickey has won the Cy Young, it’s inevitable that the talks swirling around the Mets will be regarding whether Dickey should be traded in the coming days/weeks. David Wright’s contract talks have taken a back seat for now. Trading Dickey: Is it the right thing to do, or is it the wrong thing to do? Everyone has been presenting solid evidence to back up which side...

Trading Dickey Is Only The “Backup Plan”

Today in Coney Island, Mets COO Jeff Wilpon and pitcher Johan Santana, distributed boxed lunches to residents in Brooklyn that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Afterward, Jeff Wilpon spoke with reporters and said that the team’s top priority remains retaining both David Wright and R.A. Dickey. Wilpon says negotiations are “on-going” with both players. He also added that...

It’s Dickey! Mets Knuckleballer Wins Cy Young!

Congratulations to R.A. Dickey who was just named the winner on the 2012 Cy Young Award! Dickey received 27 of 32 first place votes from the Baseball Writers Association of America. Dickey now joins Tom Seaver (1969, 1973, 1975) and Dwight Gooden (1985) as the only Mets ever to have won the award. The Mets ace led the NL in both complete games and shutouts, and led the majors with...

Mets Unveil New Alternate Blue Road Jerseys With All-Star Game Patch on Sleeve (Photo)

The Mets are going back to blue in 2013, at least for a few games. The club may not be ready to contend in the NL East next season, but they’ll be among the sharpest-dressed teams in baseball when they take the fields in their new alternate road jerseys. The jersey also features the All-Star Game patch, with the Mets hosting the Midsummer Classic this season at Citi Field. The...

MMO Prospect Pulse: RHP Erik Goeddel

Would you believe there is a 24th round pick in the Mets organization that you should care about? Believe it. Meet Erik Goeddel. At 6’3” and 185 lbs, Erik Goeddel was drafted in the 24th round of the 2010 MLB draft, and the Mets paid over-slot for this kid by far. He ended up getting paid $350,000 – more than anyone received in that round. In fact, Goeddel received double what...

From Left Field: Only 3 Teams Have Traded A Reigning Cy Young Winner

Now that it’s official that R.A. Dickey has won the NL Cy Young, hopefully the trade talks surrounding him begin to subside. It’s sad that the Mets are in such a financial bind that they can’t find the money to lock up a Cy Young award winner to a contract extension. Sure, the arguments for trading him make sense. His value is at an all time high, and the Mets could maybe...

R.A. Dickey wins the NL Cy Young award

Mets ace R.A. Dickey has won the National League Cy Young award for the first time in his major league baseball career. This past season, he went 20-6 and had an ERA of 2.73. Also he led the NL in strikeouts (230), complete games (5), innings pitched (233.2) and shutouts (3). He is the 3rd Mets pitcher in franchise history to win a Cy Young award along with legends like Tom Seaver...

Jason Bay on the market, teams watching

Free Agency Released by the NY Mets, where will Jason Bay play next season? With the New York Mets front office coming to terms with Jason Bay last week as to a buyout that will pay Bay the guaranteed remainder of his $66 million contract ($21 million this year), Bay must now find himself a new zip code, or even a postal code for that matter, if he wants to play next season. Not...

Josh Hamilton to the Phillies? No Thanks.

After reading of the Phillies reported interest in Josh Hamilton, my mind began to wander. Admittedly, like most fans, I would love the idea of another power bat in the lineup that has the potential to have a major impact on a team that struggled all season to score runs; but I began to wonder if Hamilton is right for our team. While I have no doubt that the Phillies are performing...

Wrong Timing for R.A. Dickey

The R.A. Dickey story has come full circle. Just three short years ago he was best known for a Chris Mad Dog Russo rant on YouTube. Today, he is the NL Cy Young Award winner and poised to land a multi-year deal at the age of 38. In-between there has been a couple of near no-hitters, a climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro and a personal memoir. He’s captured the heart of Mets’ fans in a...

Hot Stove: Phils’ Prez Interested in Hamilton?

The biggest piece of news today came from a Tweet from CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman. Heyman noted that Phillies’ President Dave Montgomery, when asked of the club’s interest in Josh Hamilton, stated “I don’t think there’s a whole lot we’re not considering.” Is this lip service, a coy hint about Hamilton, or an indication of wholesale change? It likely falls somewhere between...
