On Tuesday, Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis must not have applied enough pine tar to his bat and batting gloves prior to an at-bat against Toronto Blue Jays knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. Because after one offering from Dickey during Kipnis’ at-bat in the 1st inning of the team’s tilt at Rogers Centre, the bat sailed out of Kipnis’ hand, flying into the seats behind 1st base. One possibly unhinged — or at the very least, highly excitable — Blue Jays fan snatched the bat and after claiming his prize, waved the bat over his head as if it were a broadsword in a manner more consistent with how one would assume a psychotic, bloodthirsty madman would wield a bat as opposed to a baseball fan.
