On Tuesday, Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis must not have applied enough pine tar to his bat and batting gloves prior to an at-bat against Toronto Blue Jays knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. Because after one offering from Dickey during Kipnis’ at-bat in the 1st inning of the team’s tilt at Rogers Centre, the bat sailed out of Kipnis’ hand, flying into the seats behind 1st base. One possibly unhinged — or at the very least, highly excitable — Blue Jays fan snatched the bat and after claiming his prize, waved the bat over his head as if it were a broadsword in a manner more consistent with how one would assume a psychotic, bloodthirsty madman would wield a bat as opposed to a baseball fan. Via MLB GIFs: Gah! Yikes, guy. Simmer down now. Let’s consider it a blessing that he somehow managed to regain control of his emotions before he slammed the bat down on the head of some poor person seated in front of him, resulting in a horrific, visceral and blood-spattering display of maniacal violence. Sadly, as you can see in the MLB video that currently is not available for embedding at the time of the publishing of this post (come on, MLB.com!), the bat eventually was returned to the field of play but not before Crazy Bat Wielding Guy waved it threateningly at any who would dare take it from him with a look that said, “If you want this piece of lumber which I have claimed as my own, you will have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands, good sir!” Here’s some video of the freaky deaky incident, which I am sure will be pulled off YouTube by Major League Baseball soon enough: THEY CAN TAKE MY BAT, BUT THEY CANNOT TAKE…MY FREEEEEEEDOMMMMMM!!!!
