Blue Jays’ pitching prospect Landen Maroudis 'seeking multiple opinions' for his right elbow

It’s a shame too, because Maroudis’ professional career was off to a great start. The 19-year-old had a 0.84 ERA and a 2.51 FIP in 10.2 innings pitched, including a 31.6 K% and a 10.5 BB% with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays.

Not just that, but the stuff looked fantastic, as he was averaging mid-90s with the fastball with what looked like a plus slider, great looping curve, and an average changeup. He was positioning himself to become a top prospect in the Blue Jays system.

Unfortunately, this is not the only injury to a pitching prospect in the Blue Jays’ organization. It was recently reported that 2023 first-round pick Brandon Barriera was getting some form of Tommy John surgery and will be out for the rest of the season. Top prospect Ricky Tiedemann also had something going on with the elbow, but has resumed throwing.

Moreover, Dahian Santos started the season on the 60-day Injured List, while left-handed pitcher Kendry Rojas was placed on the 7-day Injured List retroactively to April 22, 2024. Of course, big league pitchers have faced injuries as well, as Jordan Romano and Erik Swanson started the season on the Injured List, while Yimi García and Chad Green haven’t pitched in May.

Even the starting rotation hasn’t gone without injuries, as Kevin Gausman had a single outing during Spring Training, but is finally rounding into form. Yariel Rodríguez also had limited outings in Spring Training, and is once again on the 15-day Injured List. Alek Manoah started the season on the Injured List, but has returned to the Blue Jays roster.

The Blue Jays organization was fortunate in the health of pitchers last season, but the same cannot be said for the start of the 2024 season. Hopefully this is the last injury for the rest of the season.
