The names of players committing to play in the World Baseball Classic are coming fast now.  Albert Pujols is likely to play, as we mentioned earlier, and now it seems R.A. Dickey will represent Team USA.  Dickey is coming off a Cy Young performance in 2012, but he is also recovering from offseason abdominal surgery. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports says Dickey is among a list of multiple players who have decided to play in the WBC for Team USA this season. Dickey, Pettitte, Kimbrel, Victorino commit to Team USA. Wright, Braun, Stanton, Mauer also in. cbsprt.co/TUaZc4 — Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) January 14, 2013 Dickey finished the 2012 season with a 20-6 record and a sparkling 2.73 ERA.  He won the National League Cy Young award to the delight of knuckleball fans everywhere.  Despite his success, the New York Mets felt it was in their best interest to trade him at the height of his demand.  The re-tolled Toronto Blue Jays picked him up for a package of young talent. Dickey revealed shortly after the season that he had been pitching with a small tear in an abdominal muscle all season long.  He underwent minor surgery to repair the muscle and is expected to be 100% if he is not already. 2013 Top 50 Prospect List

After almost a month of delay, it's finally here! The  Southpaw Top 50 Prospect list has arrived. This list is coming over two months later in the off season than last year, but given all of Alex's dealings, it's probably a good thing. In 2011 I listed 60 "names to know" in order to include not just prospects in the normal sense (given that no team has remotely...

Colby Rasmus: Former Cardinals centerfielder tries his hand at curling

Former St. Louis Cardinals centerfield Colby Rasmus was one of the most scrutinized players in recent memory during his days in St. Louis.  Fans did not understand the kid's laid back attitude and balked at his perceived laziness in centerfield. Now that he is a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, Rasmus is evidently doing his best to ingrain himself in Canadian culture. The...

Discount Double Check: J.P. Arencibia

How did I GET here? Did Grey open a magical portal and whisk me away from my fantasy football world like he was Dr. Who? I don't remember stepping into his TARDIS. The last thing I do remember was some guy with a mustache, free candy and a windowless van but he said he wanted to step into MY TARDIS. I don't think I'm remembering that last word right. In any case...

Fun Pitching Stats To While Away Your Time

With spring training still a month away, and nothing to occupy my time otherwise (what am I going to do? Go to sleep? Read a book? Exercise? I think not), I decided to spend my time searching through FanGraphs pitching stats. A few of the nuggets I came across:  - According to FanGraphs' Zone%, RA Dickey threw the second highest percentage of pitches in the strike zone last...
