Blue Jays Rant:
Just when you think our shaky bullpen couldn’t get any worse news: the Blue Jays have announced today that Casey Janssen has been placed on the 15-day DL with a right forearm strain. That the Blue Jays would be down a reliever wasn’t unexpected: super-utilityman John Macdonald was due to be activated off the DL himself for tomorrow’s game, but Janssen probably wasn’t the guy we’d expected to lose.
Simply put, Janssen has been the Blue Jays best reliever this season. Although that might not mean much these days with the ‘pen in disarray, Janssen has posted a relatively tidy 2.93 ERA (2.24 FIP) and 1.19 WHIP with a K/9 ratio of just over 8. He’s allowed no runs in 22 of his 28 appearances, even picking up his first save in over 2 seasons earlier this month. He looked just fine his last time out, striking out the side against the Orioles two nights ago, but apparently went to the team to discuss his injury yesterday.
