Toronto starter Henderson Alvarez left Monday night's game against Boston in the sixth inning for what the team said was a ''precaution with right elbow soreness.'' Alvarez threw three pitches to the leadoff hitter, Adrian Gonzalez, before the trainer and manager John Farrell came to the mound. He walked off a few minutes later with the trainer and was replaced by right-hander Jason Frasor. It was the second time the trainer and Farrell had gone to the mound. They came out with one out in the third inning. The Blue Jays were leading 7-5.

Toronto Blue Jays: Why I like Brett Lawrie

The Toronto Blue Jays kicked off their three game series against the Miami Marlins on Friday night with a bang, defeating them 12-5. Brett Lawrie had a huge night at the plate, going three for five,  including a triple, and scored four runs.  I mention how much I really like Lawrie in a previous article I wrote a month ago and it’s not because he’s Canadian either.  This...

Omar Vizquel to retire after season

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Omar Vizquel said Tuesday his majestic 24-year career will be coming to an end at the conclusion of this season. The 45-year-old began his career with the Mariners and went on to have stints at the Indians, Giants, Rangers and White Sox, before joining the Blue Jays this season. He appeared in two World Series with the Indians, in 1995 and 1997, but...

Jose Bautista’s Strange Season

Jose Bautista is once again performing at a very high level after a slow start to the season. He has produced 2.4 WAR in 72 games, and ranks 11th in the American League with a .381 wOBA. He is tied for the league lead with 23 home runs and is currently on pace to pass the 40 HR plateau for the third straight year. Despite his homer-happy ways, however, Bautista only ranks ninth in...

Perchance to dream . . .

(yes, I've been very quiet here lately. I've started a new job and my schedule is unsettled, posting may be irregular for some time to come)Yes, i was the one saying, at the beginning of the year, that the Jays had enough pitching to begin the season. I reached that conclusion, which I still find valid, because you had to have turns to give the guys you had or give up on...

Blue Jays outslug Ortiz, Red Sox

Jose Bautista, Colby Rasmus and J.P. Arencibia hit two-run homers Monday night to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 9-6 victory over Boston despite two home runs by David Ortiz that tied him for the most multihomer games in Red Sox history. It was the fourth win in six games for Toronto, which overcame three errors and blew an early four-run lead. Ortiz hit a two-run homer and a...

Moyer agreed to minor league deal with Blue Jays

Jamie Moyer may not be finished quite yet. The Toronto Blue Jays have signed the 49-year-old left-hander to a minor league deal, giving the oldest pitcher to win a game in the big leagues another shot. The Blue Jays say Moyer will make two starts for Triple-A Las Vegas, then Toronto will decide whether to bring him back to the majors. Manager John Farrell says there are no guarantees...

Does Toronto or Boston Have the Most Dangerous 3-4 Combo in the American League?

For years, the most feared 3-4 combo in the American League was David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez. Now, that title might belong to division rivals Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion. The past two seasons, Bautista has lead the league in home runs and is at the front of the pack once again this year with 24 dingers. Encarnacion, like Bautista, has found his power stroke, sitting fourth...
