When the Boston Red Sox picked up Bobby Jenks, they were hoping he could continue his 2010 return to form after a terrible 2009 season and provided the team with another arm for the late innings. Instead, Jenks has hardly pitched at all; he had two long trips to the DL and required surgery on his back in September. Various sources are now reporting that the righty needed a second surgical procedure and will miss the beginning of Spring Training.
This last news reduces the already slim chance that Jenks would be a positive contributor this season in Boston. Jenks as been erratic even in the best of times. In 2007, his best season with the Chicago White Sox, Jenks struck out 7.78 hitters per nine and walked just 1.80 while getting a huge number of groundball (53.3%), numbers that you would expect from a pitcher like Roy Halladay. He was then coming off a year where he had a K/9 rate of 10.33 and a walk rate of 4.00. Those are also very good numbers, but much more like Jon Lester tha...

SI's Corcoran doesn't like Sox downgrade in Right
For what it's worth (probably not much) SI.com's Cliff Corcoran isnt a big fan of the Reddick for Baily swap.
Here's what he has to say:
The Red Sox are serious about Daniel Bard starting, aren't they? I still think that's a mistake on its own merits, and now they've downgraded rightfield to support the experiment, swapping out Reddick for Sweeney...
Reaping What You Sow: Boston Red Sox Top 10 Prospects
The Boston Red Sox splurged in the 2010-2011 off-season in hopes of dominating the AL East and winning a World Series. They sent top prospects Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo, and Reymond Fuentes to San Diego for Adrian Gonzalez, gave Gonzalez an extension, and then signed Carl Crawford to a big contract. That didn’t work out, however, as they collapsed down the stretch allowing the...

The Red Sox were one of seven teams that didn’t have a pitcher log 200 innings last year. They were joined by the Royals, Nationals, Reds, Pirates, Rockies, and Padres. None of them made the playoffs, and only the Red Sox finished over .500.
More gone from Gonzo
