The Red Sox signed a pair of high-profile relievers this past offseason in Bobby Jenks and Dan Wheeler. To put it bluntly, both have underperformed. Jenks has not pitched since July 7 and is currently on the disabled lsit for the third time this season with a sore lower back. Now, it appears, Jenks is working his way back.

Here's the breakdown via Alex Speier of WEEI.com:
Reliever Bobby Jenks, who last pitched in a game on July 7 while dealing with his third trip to the disabled list this year (this time for a sore lower back), has improved to the point where the Red Sox have slated him to throw a bullpen session on Sunday. Barring a setback, the right-hander would then travel to Fort Myers to work out at the team's minor league training facility -- throwing bullpen sessions and perhaps simulated games -- while the Sox are on the road in Minnesota and then Seattle before potentially beginning a minor-league rehab assignment.
Jenks has pitched just 15 2/3 innings thus far in 2011. He'll bring back an embarrassing 6.32 ERA, 17 strikeouts and 13 walks in 19 appearances.

"It’s obviously in pencil. I think the last couple of times, we’ve reached a little quick and it’s gone backwards," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "The biggest thing is, obviously the most important thing is he feels good Sunday when he throws."
