Detroit Tigers Relief Pitcher Bobby Seay is headed to the DL, and may have come to the end of his career. Seay has a torn rotator cuff, and will try to rehab the injury before he has surgery to repair it that could end his career.
There has been a history of pitchers opting to forego surgery and rehab and injury like this. Todd Stollemyre successfully rehabbed his injury, but of course Pedro Martinez had the surgery and has returned to pitch effectively. The time table for the rehab is about six weeks.
This of course leaves a huge hole in the Tigers bullpen. After appearing in a career high 67 games in2009, Seay had a 6-3 record with a 4.25 era. He looked to be the Tigers left handed relief specialist in 2010. Now the Tigers will have to rely on recently acquired Phil Coke to fill that role, at least in the short term.
The Tigers may also rely on Fu-Te Ni who appeared in 36 games in 2009, and was pretty effective in his role besides Seay. In the end the Tigers are deep enough to...
