Remember, kids: if you suck at your job, remember to be famous while doing it. That way you’ll be assured of landing a job with someone desperate to latch on to someone famous when you get fired because you sucked. Bobby Valentine is the latest in sports to follow Isiah Thomas’ footsteps and give it the ol’ college try. The Connecticut Post is reporting that Sacred Heart University, a Division I school in Fairfield, Conn., will hire Valentine as its next athletic director. It’s a nice attention-grabber for a school most of us have never heard of, but that is about as far as it goes in terms of positives. The odds of this working out aren’t very good. Valentine brings a whopping zero days experience in college athletics to the table, and is coming off a disastrous showing in which he managed the Red Sox to their worst finish in four decades. That, of course, was Valentine’s first big-league managing gig in 10 years, which does not speak well to his ability to jump in and adapt to so...
