Will Middlebrooks is on fire as of late, and it's awfully difficult to find any reason behind sitting down the budding young star. On Friday, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine revealed that he would be staying with the "hot hand" in Middlebrooks and that Kevin Youkilis would take a seat in the interim. Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe discussed Middlebrooks news role and how it will eventually impact first baseman Adrian Gonzalez' ability to improve his approach at the plate. Check out the video above for more from Abraham during Friday Night Fenway.

Vote: Is Will Middlebrooks the Early AL Rookie of the Year Favorite?

Will Middlebrooks continued his dominating play Thursday night, coming through in the clutch for the Red Sox. With Boston trailing 5-3 in the eight inning, it was Middlebrooks' two-run home run that tied the game, setting the stage for an eventual Sox win. His blast set up Daniel Nava to hit the game-winning RBI single later in the inning, allowing Boston to win the game 6-5...

Your Morning Dump...Where Middlebrooks cements his spot at third

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. His job security at third base is now as tight as Dustin Pedroia [stats]’s at second base and Adrian Gonzalez’ at first. Youkilis’ whereabouts no longer have an impact on the daily...

Will Middlebrooks, Young Guns Key Improbable 'Minor League Miracle' in Red Sox' Comeback Win (Video)

Well that was unexpected -- and awesome. Will Middlebrooks homered, Daniel Nava singled home Ryan Kalish and just like that, the Red Sox were winners. Calling it a "miracle" might be a bit of a stretch, but it certainly felt like an improbable comeback for the Sox. That's why NESN Nation's Dan Duquette is awarding Middlebrooks our "Minor League Miracle"...

Youk Gets Benched

Bobby V. has decided to go with Will Middlebrooks at third and return Adrian Gonzalez to first base for the time being.  This means that Youk has to ride pine.  Middlebrooks is swinging a hot bat and Youk is putting up the worst numbers of his career.  The Red Sox had wanted Youkilis to put up some better numbers to increase his trade value but Middlebrooks' production at...

Kevin Youkilis Benched for Will Middlebrooks

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that struggling third baseman Kevin Youkilis has been told by manager Bobby Valentine that he will be benched in favor of top prospect Will Middlebrooks. Youkilis, a 33 year old nine year veteran, is batting just .225 on the season with unusually low .670 OPS. The Cincinnati, Ohio native and former eighth round pick of the Red Sox is usually...

Boston Red Sox: Contenders or Pretenders?

One of the few teams in the MLB that has high expectations year-in and year-out has struggled this year. I’m speaking of the Boston Red Sox, who are in their first year under manager Bobby Valentine. The BoSox are currently in 4th place in the loaded AL East, sitting 5 1/2 games back of the red-hot Yankees. But unlike recent years, it is not just a two or three team race out...

Although all of the big names may be taken in your fantasy league, there are always options on the waiver wire. The following players are available in the majority of leagues, have been streaking over the past week and may be worth a look to fill a need on your roster: Pedro Alvarez (PIT) 3B [23% owned] – As streaky as they come, the aggressive hitter is currently on a tear. SO LONG, OLD FRIEND

Boston fans say farewell to Kevin Youkilis

The way the ball sort of dropped between the out-fielders felt like fate kind of? Youkilis in his final at-bat as a Red Sox player was going to get one last chance to hustle around the bases and turn what should have been an out into a RBI triple. Hand it to the fans too. The second that Youk was lifted for Nick Punto and started getting the hugs from his teammates they knew something...

Red Sox place Buchholz on 15-day DL

The Boston Red Sox have placed right-handed pitcher Clay Buchholz on the 15-day disabled list Sunday due to what manager Bobby Valentine called a "gastrointestinal issue." Boston is planning to activate Aaron Cook from the 15-day DL to start...

State Of The Sox: A Plea For Survival

“State Of The Sox” is a weekly Friday piece detailing where the Red Sox currently stand in Major League Baseball and whether or not they can be successful going forward. We apologize if, at times, it comes across as a bit harsh. All anyone can ask is that the Red Sox play hard. That they care. That they swing the bats like they want to hit. That they don’t give up. That’s...
