According to the Connecticut Post Bobby Valentine (yes, that bum who led the Red Sox to a 69-93 record last season) is a candidate to fill the vacant athletic director position at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn. According to a source, Valentine, a Stamford native, visited the campus in Fairfield about two weeks ago.
Valentine was fired by the Red Sox after one season in which the Red Sox compiled a 69-93 record, their worst record since 1965.
You can’t really be surprised by this though… only Bobby V would be able to go from the big time with the Boston Red Sox to a small New England College in a completely new role… another disaster in the making maybe?

An official with knowledge of the deal says the Boston Red Sox have signed first baseman Lyle Overbay to a minor league contract.
The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced.
If he makes the Boston roster out of spring training, Overbay would share duties with Mike Napoli.
Overbay is a career .270 hitter with 133 homers and 581 RBI...
When well-respected bullpen coach Gary Tuck decided to suddenly retire earlier this week, Jason Varitek seemed like a logical fit. It appears Varitek will remain in his current role as special assistant to general manager Ben Cherington, though.
According to WEEI.com’s Alex Speier, it does not appear that Varitek is being considered, or even wants to be considered, for the position...
Welcome to Boston Stephen Drew, may your time be much more memorable then your brothers. This offseason the Boston Red Sox signed a replacement for Mike Aviles as a transition to Jose Iglesias. Seeing the last name Drew on the back of a Red Sox jersey will make me cringe, just the thought of it gives me the chills. Drew does have potential in Boston, but the likelihood of him performing...

Gary Tuck earned what so many seek to earn throughout their coaching careers: respect. So while replacing a bullpen coach hardly leads to the fanfare of signing a free agent or executing a trade, the Red Sox need to choose wisely in replacing Tuck.
Immediately, the name that comes to mind is Jason Varitek.
The former Red Sox captain rejoined the organization in September as a special...

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
After making his final start of last season, on Sept. 29 in
Baltimore, Felix Doubront finally conceded what everyone had suspected
He was tired.
There wasn’t any shame in that

In a recent interview, NESN Daily‘s Adam Pellerin sat down with Zimbalist, a professor of economics at Smith College, to talk about the Red Sox’ ownership, with Zimbalist saying the group is among the best in professional sports...

The Sox have signed first baseman Lyle Overbay to a minor league contract with a non-roster invite to spring training, according to Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald.
Overbay, who turned 36 on Monday, is a career .270 hitter in 12 big league seasons. He hit .259 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 116...
The Red Sox may have filled the most obvious hole on their roster today by agreeing to a minor-league deal with Lyle Overbay, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.
I was all ready to line up joke after joke about Overbay being old (36) and always hurt, but really on a minor-league deal this is a solid move. He's a patient hitter (career OBP .353 vs. AVG of .270) with plenty of...
