Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina are likely breathing a sigh of relief; not because their team is ahead 4-2 after a 3-run 7th inning, but because the spotlight on their epic blunder will be a lot dimmer after the one the Red Sox had that helped put the Cardinals on top. Gifdsports.com There is a lot going on in the GIF so here is the sequence of events: Matt Carpenter hit sacrifice fly to left Pete Kozma scored, Jon Jay to third Daniel Descalsoto second on catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia's fielding error Jon Jay scored, Daniel Descalso to third on pitcher Craig Breslow's fielding error Ouch! To make matters worse the pain wasn't over at that point; the blunders were, but the damage they caused was not quite fully actualized until: Carlos Beltrán singled to shallow right, Daniel Descalso scored Wainwright and Molina's gaffe was the worse of the two, but thanks to this mess it is now yesterday's news. Adam Wainwright Has Nightmares About Yankees, Prophesies NY World Series

So powerful is the lure of the New York Yankees, that opposing players have nightmares about it. No, really. Even players on teams currently more successful than the Bronx’s own are scared of the beautiful pinstripes. Just ask Adam Wainwright, who happens to be currently competing for a World Championship with the St.Louis Cardinals. Wainwright has apparently heard...

Adam Wainwright Nails Head on Dugout Ceiling Prior to First Pitch in Game 1 (GIF)

Adam Wainwright got off to a rough start Wednesday night. No, we’re not talking about the three runs he gave up in the first inning of Game 1, or the two more he surrendered in the second. Wainwright’s struggles began before he even threw his first pitch. As he stood up and began his trip to the mound for the bottom of the first inning, the 6-foot-7 right-hander clocked his head...

Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina with an Epic Blunder of World Series Proportions

There are some things that you think will never happen in the World Series. You don't think admission will be free and beer cheap, you don't think that aliens will land in the outfield, and you don't ever think that two players will stand there and watch a ball that either could have easily caught fall to the ground right between them. But in Game One Wednesday night...

McNeal: After Game 2 win, World Series became the Cardinals' to lose

ST. LOUIS -- Adam Wainwright could not tell a fib. Asked Friday afternoon if he has given thought that his Game 5 start could be to clinch the 12th World Series championship for the Cardinals, he said, "Yes, if I'm on a lie detector, yes." He was quick to add some perspective. "What I do know is we can't get ahead of ourselves," Wainwright said Friday...

Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina let popup drop (GIF)

As if allowing three runs in the bottom of the first in Game 1 of the World Series wasn’t already a bad enough sign for the St. Louis Cardinals, they committed a mistake in the second that seemed to confirm it really wasn’t their game. Boston Red Sox shortstop Stephen Drew led off the second […]

2013 World Series: Two Fall Classic factors you ought to know

For the first time since 1999, the two teams with the best records in their respective leagues are meeting in the World Series. Adam Wainwright (Photo credit: Wikipedia) No doubt this looks to be a fantastic match-up between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals, as these are two complete teams made up of gritty players who have a lot of pride. But there are two factors that...

Game 1 rout a good sign for the Sox

Sam Galanis Contributing Writer The Red Sox showed the St. Louis Cardinal’s that their offense was back by unloading an 8-1 drubbing on their ace Adam Wainwright for Game 1 Wednesday night. Not only does that set a great tone for the Sox for the Series, it also puts history on their side. In the last 25 World Series, 21 of the 25 teams who won Game 1 went on to win it all. What’s...

3 things to watch in World Series Game 1

ST. LOUIS -- This being late October, let's start with a Game 1 weather report: Temperature in Boston is expected to be 46 degrees at first pitch with a 65 percent chance of rain. The rain chance drops to 20 percent by 10 p.m. Boston time. Now, three things to watch Wednesday night -- assuming the weather cooperates: Wainwright and the grind factor The Red Sox's lineup...

World Series Recap: Lester dominates, Wainwright left staring as Sox take Game 1

Stan Grossfeld/Globe From worst to first, the Red Sox journey to put their finishing touches an incredible turnaround began tonight, as Jon Lester faced off versus Cardinals' ace Adam Wainwright in Game 1 of the 109th World Series. Lester was pretty darn good tonight. Most of the time he was electric and located on both sides of the plate, but he did get into some jams as the...

Cardinal Gaffes Are Completely Out Of Character

For whatever reason, the St. Louis Cardinals looked like some other team on Wednesday night. Noted for their precise defensive prowess, they committed three actual errors and a couple more of omission, handing Boston enough momentum to capture Game One of the World Series. Pete Kozma committed two of the errors—and he's out there only for his glove. But perhaps the most embarrassing...

Coutdown to Cooperstown: Yadier Molina

Like an impressionist painting, the Cooperstown credentials of Yadier Molina become clearer when you take a step back and look at the entire picture. Originally known as the little brother of Bengie and Jose Molina, he  has turned their identities to “Yadier’s big brothers.” A big leaguer since he was 21, Molina has quietly evolved into a superstar. Defensively, he...

The Day the Cardinals Got It Right

In the 2011 offseason, the St. Louis Cardinals were faced with a decision: keep their superstar 1st baseman or their catcher. They made the right choice. Molina is a five-time Gold Glove winner and five-time All Star. Since his 2001 Rookie of the Year campaign, Albert Pujols had never dipped below a .299 average, 32 home runs or 99 runs batted in. He was a plus defender at first...

Cardinal Way? Game 1 was the wrong way

When the 2013 World Series began Wednesday night at blustery Fenway Park little did we know what the Cardinals had planned for the viewing audience. It was a comedic tribute to the 2004 World Series 10 years after. Mental errors and physical errors. Futility and frustration. Slapstick and silliness. A no-show of startling proportions. The Cardinal Way? No more like a Cardinal...

Cardinals Create Own Misfortune In Game One

In many regards, the Cardinals have been a max effort team throughout their playoff run. From a string of uncanny, timely pitching performances, to just the right hits to get by, they have found a seamless way to survive. However, on Wednesday night in Boston, those seams popped and the Cardinal chances quickly followed suit. There is not a postseason series that is devoid of ...
