May is ALS Awareness Month, and Boston College will participate by holding its second annual ALS Awareness Game. On Saturday, May 4, at 1:30 p.m. ET, Shea Field will be the site of a game between BC and visiting Virginia Tech. Four ALS charities will be in attendance – The ALS Association of MA, Prize4life, ALS TDI, and The Angel Fund — and the proceeds of a 50/50 raffle will be split equally amongst them. BC broke its attendance record last year, with 2,200 attendees at the stadium. There is also an online auction with proceeds going to the Pete Frates #3 Fund. Frates is a former Eagles baseball captain, and current president of baseball operations, who was recently diagnosed with ALS. The 28-year-old has thrown out first pitches at both JetBlue Park and Fenway Park to raise awareness for the condition.
