Found May 06, 2012 on Bloody Sox:
Beginning on Monday night, the Red Sox will play a three game a three game road series against the Kansas City Royals after  losing 5 of  6 games on their recent  six game home stand, including a three-game sweep by the Orioles.   It’s been a strange up and down season so far for the Red Sox with more ups than downs.  Their best stretch came during their last road trip, winning 6 of 7 games against the Twins and the White Sox.  That road trip came right after losing the last 5 games of their prior home stand.  The Red Sox surprisingly have played better on the road than at Fenway to this point in the season.  They are 7-6 on the road, but they have won only 4 of 14 contests at Fenway.  Three left handed pitchers are scheduled to take on the Sox for the Royals as the Red Sox try to shake off the results the six game home stand and get back on a winning track. The Red Sox hope to be road warriors for this abbreviated three game set.  The Royals, who have the second worst record in ...

Felix Doubront's High-Wire Act Pays Off With Bullpen Spared Dangerous Workload by Slimmest of Margins (Video)

Felix Doubront needed to come up big for the Red Sox after their bullpen was exhausted over the weekend. He came up just barely large enough. Doubront collected career highs in innings pitched and pitches thrown on Monday, but the Red Sox needed every last one of them to bridge the time to Vicente Padilla and a dramatic seventh-inning escape. NESN Nation's Dan Duquette is giving...

Felix Doubront Protects Exhausted Bullpen With Improved Efficiency on Mound

KANSAS CITY, Mo. –– From the beginning of the day, Felix Doubront felt the burden. After 13 2/3 innings of work against the Orioles on Sunday, the bullpen was exhausted. Fresh off the second extra-inning game in three games, the relievers needed their own relief from Doubront, who never lasted past the sixth heading into Monday. And in the 11-5 win over the Royals, Doubront came...

Red Sox Live Blog: Daniel Bard Looks to Get Sox Streaking Against Royals

8 a.m. ET: With Monday's win over the Royals (9-19), the Red Sox (12-16) snapped their five-game losing streak and are starting the uphill climb back to .500. The team will look for pitcher Daniel Bard to carry the torch in the second game of the three-games series against the Royals. In Bard's last start against the Athletics, he wasn't quite as sharp as he's proven...

Red Sox Live Blog: Felix Doubront Gets the Ball as Sox Kick Off Series With Royals

8 a.m. ET: After a disappointing homestand, the Red Sox are hoping to sustain their momentum on the road against the Royals. Monday's game will mark a notable homecoming for Red Sox shortstop Mike Aviles and pitching coach Bob McClure, each of whom spent the majority of the last few years in Kansas City. In four years with the Royals, Aviles hit 24 homers with 122 RBIs with a...

Vicente Padilla Steps Up for Red Sox in Bullpen, Pays Debt to Felix Doubront

KANSAS CITY, Mo. –– After squaring a nine-run lead against the Yankees in April, the bullpen was indebted to starter Felix Doubront. The lefty pitcher jokingly admitted as much after Monday's game. In the opener against the Royals, Vicente Padilla wiped the slate clean. When Padilla relieved Doubront in the seventh inning, he induced a 4-6-3 double play to escape a bases...

Doubront saves Boston bullpen in blowout at K.C.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Will Middlebrooks hit two home runs and drove in five runs, and Boston clubbed 16 hits, half of them for extra-bases, but it was Felix Doubront who gave the Red Sox what they needed most on Monday -- innings from the starting pitcher. Doubront went 6 1/3 innings, the longest outing of his career, to save an overworked Red Sox bullpen in an 11-5 victory over...

Felix Doubront Could End Up in Bullpen, But He's Proven He Has Tools to Be Successful Major League Starter (Video)

There's one less cook in the kitchen now that Aaron Cook has been placed on the disabled list, but he'll be back before long, at which point the Red Sox rotation will become even more crowded. That's because Daisuke Matsuzaka's return is looming as well, meaning Bobby Valentine has some decisions to make when it comes to handing out starts. The Boston Globe's...

Kelly Shoppach Amazed He Legged Out Triple, Calls Felix Doubront 'Goofy' (Video)

Kelly Shoppach has been showing off some of his speed this season. Earlier in the season, the veteran catcher stole the first base of his career on a rumbling, bumbling, stumbling effort into second base. On Monday night, Shoppach recorded another first with his feet. The 32-year-old catcher let off a shot over the left fielders head in Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium in the Red...

Red Sox Bullpen Needs Some Time Off to Recover After Marathon Effort, Busy Weekend Series (Video)

The Red Sox bullpen was taxed on Monday, but they're not catching a break anytime soon. Boston's in the midst of a 20-day, 20-game stretch that continues against the Royals, so they won't be getting any rest unless the starting rotation can provide it for them. Felix Doubront will have to be that guy on Monday with the Sox in Kansas City, which might also be a good thing...

Who Made This Video?

Somebody creepily filmed Daniel Bard’s pitching mechanics, then interviewed him about them. Weirdly, this video was made this off-season before Bard became a Major League starter. Whatever company is producing this videos couldn’t get a somewhat proven professional starter to talk about his mechanics? Apparently not, because they settled on disgruntled former set-up man Daniel Bard.

Kansas City, Where Wins Are Pretty

Daniel Bard gets the ball tonight against young Danny Duffy, who might be a little better than his record suggests. This series is must-win. I'll stop short of must-sweep, but the Sox have to win at least two of these games. Cleveland's next, and they're a lot better, so the Sox need momentum It will be interesting to see if Cleveland's new acquisition, a young fellow...

Red Sox 11, Royals 5

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Will Middlebrooks hit two home runs and drove in five runs, while Felix Doubront gave the Boston Red Sox what they needed most -- innings from the starting pitcher -- in an 11-5 victory Monday night over the Kansas City Royals. Doubront (2-1) went 6 1/3 innings, the longest outing of his career, to save an overworked Red Sox bullpen. He yielded five runs, four...

Kelly Shoppach Gets Second-Straight Start Behind Plate, Daniel Bard Takes Hill in Kansas City

Kelly Shoppach threw on his running shoes and put on quite the performance during Boston's 11-5 win on Monday night. It looks like, after recording his first-career triple in the win, Shoppach earned himself another start behind the plate. Daniel Bard is set to take the mound for Tuesday's night's game, as the Red Sox look to make it two-straight wins in Kansas City....
