Found May 23, 2012 on Lost My Way:
You can't blame the Red Sox for looking ahead a little bit. After 19 straight games Boston will finally have a day off tomorrow, but will first have to make it one more this afternoon in the rubber match against the Baltimore Orioles.
Last night, the Red Sox were held to only two hits in a 4-1 Orioles win. A bright spot was the return of Kevin Youkilis who scored the lone Boston run with a solo homerun in the fourth. Brian Matusz picked up the win for the birds in six and one-third innings. The bullpen picked up the rest of the work as Jim Johnson recorded his MLB best 16th save on the season.
Today Daniel Bard will be on the hill for the Sox against Jake Arrieta for Baltimore. Arrieta, is coming off a seven-inning nine-strikeout performance in a win against the Nationals, while Bard will look to bounce back after being roughed up by the Phillies in his last outing.
I absolutely love the over at 9 in today's game. Bard's last three outings have gone over, while two of the previous three for Arrieta have also gone over the run total. The Red Sox average over five runs per game and I expect they quickly want to forget about last nights ugly performance at the plate. Baltimore can also score some runs and average a little over four and a half per game and an MLB best 67 homeruns so far this season. Bard has had some control problems this season and I think the Red Sox may score more than nine themselves.
Lock it up: Red Sox/Orioles over 9, 5/23/12.
A word of advice: check the lineups before you place any wager. After playing last night, you want to make sure neither manager will rest any key players but I highly doubt it, considering each team will have a day off tomorrow.
TL;DR The Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles will battle for the series this afternoon, and I expect a lot of runs to be scored.

Recap: Offense bails out Bard in afternoon win

Daniel Bard couldn't get through the 6th inning, but 13 hits from the Red Sox offense allowed the team to squeeze past Baltimore, 6-5. Bard struggled with command, walking four in addition to giving up five hits over five and a third innings. Bard's strikeout count was down, too, as he had just two, both of which came late in his outing. He got the win, moving to 4-5, but...

Your Morning Dump...where Doubront is the new Buchholz

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. "Felix had his good stuff," said Bobby Valentine. "He was battling the whole way. He just happened to pick the night when the opposing pitcher (Brian Matusz) had good stuff and shut us down...

Red Sox At-Bat Songs, Pitcher Entrance Music Include Everything From Too $hort to Jason Aldean

In shipping down to Philadelphia, Jonathon Papelbon's notorious entrance to "Shipping Up to Boston" by Boston's own Dropkick Murphys, is no longer played throughout the Fenway Park PA system, leaving "Sweet Caroline" as the lone Fenway sing-a-long. But a few months into the 2012 season, some new Fenway favorites have emerged. Below is a complete list of...

Should the Red Sox Send Will Middlebrooks Down to Triple-A Pawtucket?

It's decision time for the Red Sox. Kevin Youkilis is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday, after wrapping up a rehab stint in Pawtucket with a bang. The Red Sox third baseman went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and an RBI on Monday, while also playing nine innings at third base. After going 4-for-11 with a couple of doubles and a handful of walks in three...

Boston Red Sox Review and Preview

By Are the Boston Red Sox finally coming around? It looks like that might be the case. With nine wins in its last 11 games Boston has gone from seven games under .500 to 21-21 in short order.  The MLB odds for this historic team are not the best at this point but we agree that the Red Sox are a capable team. Coming off that disastrous ending to last year and with the...

Red Sox put reliever Hill on DL

The Boston Red Sox have placed reliever Rich Hill on the 15-day disabled list with tightness in his left elbow. Hill had Tommy John surgery on the elbow a year ago and will be examined on Monday. Boston recalled RHP Mark Melancon from Triple-A Pawtucket to replace Hill in the bullpen and activated him for Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals. Hill (1-0) has made...

Adrian Gonzalez's Right Field Experiment Offers Win-Win Situation for First Baseman (Video)

Adrian Gonzalez may have won a Gold Glove at first base, so playing right field can't be that much harder, right? Gonzo is playing outfield on Tuesday night to let Will Middlebrooks and Kevin Youkilis man the corner infield spots together, but NESN Nation's Dan Duquette isn't all that worried about any potential misadventures in right. See why in the video above. Join...

Kevin Youkilis homers in his first game back in the Red Sox line-up.

Recap: Sox fail to give Doubront run support, fall to Orioles 4-1

The Red Sox really don't want to get over .500. A pitcher's duel went in Baltimore's favor tonight as the Red Sox couldn't touch Brian Matusz, who allowed just two hits and one walk against nine strikeouts in six and a third innings. The bullpen remained strong, splitting the remaining innings among Darren O'Day, Pedro Strop, and closer Jim Johnson. Felix Doubront...

Dustin Pedroia was among Youkilis' Red Sox teammates who were happy to see him back. He said that and more after the game on Red Sox Clubhouse Uncut.
