The Indians dropped the second game of their interleague series in Houston by a final of 8-1. The Tribe opened the scoring with a solo shot by Asdrubal Cabrera, but it all came apart for Jeanmar Gomez in the fifth inning and the Astros were well on their way. Dallas Keuchel went the distance for the Astros, allowing just the Cabrera blast.

Jimenez keeps Tribe hot streak going

The Indians got a strong pitching performance from an unexpected source Friday in beating the Astros 2-0 in Houston. The winning pitcher was Ubaldo Jimenez, who came into the game with a 6.21 ERA in seven road starts, but pitched 6 23 scoreless innings to get the win. It was a nice way for the Indians to begin a challenging 10-game trip that will take them from Houston to New York...

Indians start 10-game road trip today

The Indians' schedule included only eight home games in the month of June, and they've already played them. Following an off day Thursday, they will conclude the month with a 10-game trip to Houston, the New York Yankees and Baltimore. It will be an important trip for the Indians, who despite all the road games this month have managed to climb into first place in the AL Central...

Rookie Keuchel has night to remember

HOUSTON Dallas Keuchel answered the questions at a measured clip, ignoring the humorous requests from teammates to remove his hat and jersey top while addressing the media following a serendipitous result. The gravity of the moment should have landed like an anvil by now, yet Keuchel remained composed. The left-hander had just earned his first big-league victory, doing so while...

6/23 Game Recap: Indians 1 - Astros 8

Player of The Game The lonely run the Indians scored today was credited to Asdrubal Cabrera. Cabrera hit a solo home run in the 4th inning, which gave the Indians the early lead. His 9th home run of the year gave him a score of 2.92, winning him his 5th Player of the Game of the season. Feathers Up Tony Sipp came though in relief today after Gomez fell apart. Sipp pitched 1...

First-place Tribe looks to rebound against Astros

The first-place Cleveland Indians witnessed the offensively challenged Houston Astros put a big number on the board during their latest contest, marking their worst performance since Derek Lowe took the mound earlier in the week. Given the way Lowe has been pitching lately - especially against the National League - Houston's lineup could be in for another big day. Lowe looks...

Box Score: Astros 7, Indians 1

The Indians dropped their second straight to the Astros to lose their interleague series in Houston. As was the case on Saturday, the Tribe got on the board first with a run in the second. But it would be all Houston from there on, as they poured in on in the late innings to cruise to another easy win. Derek Lowe kept it close, giving up three runs but both Nick Hagadone and Esmil...

Astros quandry: too much starting pitching?

It may sound ridiculous for a team still twelve games under .500, but in the last week the Astros have had superb starting pitching and now have a problem. Who deserves to stay in the rotation. Bud Norris off a five inning two earned run start for Oklahoma City has apparently convinced the Astro brass that his knee is fine and he is ready to rejoin the club. The problem is that...

Harrell takes another step in development

HOUSTON It is difficult to fathom a pitcher unrenowned for strikeouts could be so oblivious to setting a new career standard in that category, but Astros right-hander Lucas Harrell was that pitcher on Friday night. There was a game plan to execute and a bigger picture to keep in view, thus the strikeout tally wasn't foremost on the mind of someone who's all too easy to...

Indians beat Astros in 1st meeting since '01

HOUSTON (AP) -- Shin-Soo Choo hit a leadoff triple and Michael Brantley drove in a run late to back up a strong start by Ubaldo Jimenez and the Cleveland Indians got a 2-0 win over the Houston Astros on Friday night. Choo's triple was one of only two hits the Indians managed in seven innings against Houston starter Lucas Harrell (6-6) as these teams met for the first time since...

Morgan inducted into Astros' Walk of Fame

Joe Morgan is the Vice-Chairman of the Board for Baseball's Hall of Fame, so he must be guarded in his remarks about which players deserve to be enshrined, but Morgan was clear about the way the legal system took on Roger Clemens. "The things that happened to (Clemens and Barry Bonds) should not have happened," said Morgan. "I think the government should have...

6/24 Game Recap: Indians 1 - Astros7

Player of the Game Accounting for the only run today, Jose Lopez walks away with today's Player of the Game. In the 2nd inning, Lopez led off the inning with a double. He advanced to 3rd on a ground out by Michael Brantley and came around to score on a wild pitch with Shelley Duncan batting. His score of 1.23 gives him 5 PoG awards on the year. Feathers Up Derek Lowe placed...

Struggles in 5th undo Indians in loss to Astros

HOUSTON (AP) -- Rookie Dallas Keuchel pitched a complete game and J.D Martinez and Jordan Schafer hit consecutive homers in Houston's four-run fifth inning, leading the Astros to an 8-1 win over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday. Keuchel (1-0) allowed six hits and struck out three for his first win in his second major league start. The Astros had scored just one run in the...

Astros' bats lively in win over Indians

HOUSTON (AP) -- Chris Johnson homered and drove in three runs and J.D. Martinez hit a two-run homer to lead the Houston Astros to a 7-1 win over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. The victory gave Houston a series win for the first time since taking two of three from the White Sox June 8-10. Houston starter J.A. Happ (6-7) got his second consecutive win by allowing four hits and...

Padres-Astros Preview

Houston Astros left-hander Wandy Rodriguez has one of the highest run-support averages in the NL, but he's also been on the hill for half of his team's shutout losses this season. The way the Astros have started to swing the bats, Rodriguez could be pitching with a cushion in his next outing. Rodriguez looks to win his fourth straight decision over the San Diego Padres...

Game 69: Pirates 4 Tigers 1

One of the things that I've really liked about the last few games for the Pirates (and if it wasn't already clear, I've liked quite a few things) is that the Pirates have been playing opponents that have made mistakes, and the Pirates have seriously cashed in on them. Against the Indians, Asdrubal Cabrera booted balls all over the field on Saturday and Sunday and the...
