North Side Notch:
Kristy Robinson reported that Brad Lincoln will start in place of Erik Bedard (back spasms) on Monday in Miami. Bedard will have his start pushed back to Wednesday in Washington.
Lincoln certainly deserves the shot over anyone else as he has been spectacular so far this season in a long relief role. In 14 1/3 innings, he has given up just one earned run, good for a 0.63 ERA. He also has struck out 16 batters.
One thing that does mean, though, is the Pirates will be pretty short-handed in the bullpen for the immediate future as Lincoln will be unable to be used this weekend or for the better part of next week.
The good news out of all of this is that Bedard’s injury is not severe enough to force him to miss any significant amount of time or warrant a stint on the disabled list. In 35 innings this year, Bedard has a 2.57 ERA and 37 strikeouts.

Grant Brisbee writes about the worst trade of the last five years at SB Nation today, and it might surprise you to see that he chose the Octavio Dotel for James McDonald deal from the 2010 trade deadline. You can read the whole thing for his reasons.I've actually been thinking about this trade (and others) quite a bit lately as I turn the Pirates' offensive struggles over...

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Josh Harrison's 12th-inning single drove in Clint Barmes and the Pittsburgh Pirates came back for a 3-2 win over the Houston Astros on Sunday.
Harrison was 0 for 3 before lining the first pitch he saw from Fernando Rodriguez (1-4) into left. Barmes had just hit a two-out double to left and scored from second. He slid under the tag of Jason Castro, who received...
It's always amazing to me how quickly an exciting ending wipes away everything frustrating about a baseball game. After Neil Walker and Andrew McCutchen hit back-to-back doubles in the first inning to put the Pirates ahead 1-0, Wandy Rodriguez faced the minimum number of hitters in the second through eighth innings. That resulted in a 2-1 Astros lead going into the bottom of...
Hey Nate McLouth…. That guy is awful. He should be cut, tomorrow. I’m not sure why “The Color Purple” himself Clint Hurdle has him batting second. I don’t want it to seem like it’s only Nate’s fault. It definitely isn’t. But he is so bad. The Pirates acquired Jeff Larish… If he is anything more [...]
Seeing free agent signings fall flat is nothing new to the Pittsburgh Pirates. After all, this franchise has endured the likes of Adam Laroche, Jeromy Burnitz, Joe Randa, Raul Mondesi and, of course, Derek Bell. While Clint Barmes's poor play hasn't reached the point where it could be considered a "saga", I still believe it belongs in the conversation of worst...
That took a bit of the sting off of the previous loss. Pirates need the rubber game though. Do the Pirates even have a Sunday lineup? First Pitch: 1:35 PM EST Where to Watch: Root Sports, MLB.TV, FS-H Wandy Rodriguez, LHP (33) Can we please make something very clear right off the top. Wandy [...]
