Brad Penny Released

To make room for Billy Wagner on the roster the Red Sox have granted Brad Penny his release according to the Boston Herald. It sounds like Penny asked for the move and he took the high road in his comments;“I enjoyed playing with all of the guys. I played for a great manager on a great team. I had a great time. I enjoyed it. I wish things had worked out better, but that happens.” (Boston Herald)"All in all I had a great time here. My shoulder is healthy and I’m glad I came here. It was a blessing.” (Boston Globe)The Sox lose a guy who despite his high ERA had actually proven pretty valuable over the course of the season. After getting pounded in Cleveland in late-April (after which I hypothesized that he was going to be released soon after) Penny became one of the Sox most reliable hurlers going 5-4 with a 3.92 ERA from May 3rd through July 24th.Since that start on the 24th Penny has been hammered.
