This came to my attention this morning after reading a piece on Getting Blanked by Dustin Parkes, where he noted that Brandon Phillips of the Reds accused a mystery Pirate of racism during Monday's game between the two teams. After the game, Phillips tweeted this out: #RealTalk... Not really surprised by what I heard come outta another player's mouth tonite but DAMN... Still PISSED bout that $h¡+!! #Racism — Brandon Phillips (@DatDudeBP) September 11, 2012 This is obviously a serious allegation, and Phillips' main issue apparently came after he was hit by Pirates reliever Jared Hughes in the eighth inning. Check out the video below. After Hughes plunked Phillips, the All-Star second baseman flips the ball back to the mound, and Hughes starts jawing with Phillips...well, jawing at Phillips, because the Reds star ignored him. Umpires got involved and warned both benches. After the inning, Phillips and Pirates star Andrew McCutchen had a brief di...

Reds 2B: Pirate made racist remarks

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips has accused an unidentified Pittsburgh Pirates player of making racist comments towards him during a game Monday.

Cincinnati Reds fans howl during game

No, that wasn't a pack of wild dogs you heard during Monday's Cincinnati Reds game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was a group of fans near the outfield that decided to start howling as the game went into extra innings. The howling became so loud that you could hear during the broadcast and might have been unbearable if you were watching the game on television: Your browser...

Neal Huntington Should Be Fired

I want to be on record before the final couple of the weeks of the season play out: Neal Huntington should be fired. I hope this team doesn’t lose a game the rest of the season. I hope that the Buccos sweep through the playoffs and win the World Series in four games. I hope that, after winning it all in 2012, the Pirates go on a nearly generation long streak of victorious seasons...

Blaze get routed by Nuts, still lead playoff series 2-1

Monday's Reds game went 14 innings and lasted over five hours. Though their game took about half the time, the Blaze players probably felt like their game was just as long as they got whooped by the Nuts 12-1 in the third game of the best-of-five series. Modesto was in survival mode and did have the advantage of throwing Major League pitcher Jorge De La Rosa on the mound...

McCutchen Showing Signs of Sparking on Offense

Despite the offensive struggles from the Pirates over the past several weeks, Andrew McCutchen looks like he’s getting back on track. And the team needs him to do so. Pittsburgh has lost 21 of their past 30 games, which includes a four game losing streak after Cincinnati walked off in extras on Monday night. But in that game, Andrew McCutchen finished 2-for-5 with a home run...

Reds Win in 14 Innings

The Reds dodge some extra-inning bullets and won a fourteen-inning thriller by a score of 3-2 over the Pirates last night at Great American Ball Park. Ryan Ludwick ended the game with a walk-off infield single. It was the fourth consecutive game that manager Dusty Baker gave the start in center field to Chris Heisey over the slumping Drew Stubbs. Heisey homered and his now hitting .287.

West Virginia Power 2012 Season Recap: Hitters

Heading in to the season I had the West Virginia Power as the team to watch in the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system, due to Josh Bell and the international talent that would be there. That international talent, led by Alen Hanson and Gregory Polanco, ended up making West Virginia a team to watch, not just in the system, but in all of minor league baseball. Below are the stats from...

Reds send Pirates to 5th straight loss

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Mike Leake pitched seven innings, had a pair of hits and scored on a dash home off a wild pitch Tuesday night, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-3 victory over the fading Pittsburgh Pirates. Both teams were recovering from their 5-hour, 22-minute game on Monday night, won by the Reds 4-3 in 14 innings. Leake (8-9) gave up nine hits, including Alex Presley'...

Reds 4, Pirates 3(14)

Ryan Ludwick drove in the winning run with a two-out infield single in the 14th inning, lifting the Cincinnati Reds to a marathon 4-3 victory Monday night that handed the fading Pittsburgh Pirates their fourth straight loss. Rick VandenHurk (0-1), who was called up before the game, started the 14th and gave up a single by Devin Mesoraco. Brandon Phillips reached when the Pirates...

Reds 5, Pirates 3

West Virginia Power 2012 Season Recap: Top Prospects

Complete West Virginia Coverage The Hitters The Pitchers Top Prospects 1t. Alen Hanson, SS 1t. Gregory Polanco, OF I had a tough time picking the top prospect from this pair. In a tiered ranking system, they’d both be in the same group. When it comes to picking between them, it’s splitting hairs. Offensively, the difference is minimal. Polanco was more consistent this year, and...
