MILWAUKEE -- A .332 batting average. A staggering 33 home runs and 111 RBI. An NL-leading .597 slugging percentage. The fans at Miller Park had heard all of these stats before in reference to their beloved star outfielder Ryan Braun. But on Sunday, they got their chance to hear it over the loud speakers in Milwaukee with a special title attached: MVP. There was no talk of controversy, of tampered tests, or of who deserved what. No, on Sunday afternoon, for just a few minutes, the pre-game ceremony was simply about a city and its star player. And as Braun emerged from the dugout, tipping his hat to the fans that had supported him through the last several months, the entirety of Miller Park rose to its feet. Only three Milwaukee Brewers have ever been honored with an MVP award, as Robin Yount won the award twice (1982, 1989) and Rollie Fingers once (1981). And as the announcer introduced the latest honoree for the award, the last Brewer MVP emerged from the dugout to hand the award to Braun himself. It was Yount who had been arguably the most decorated hitter in franchise history. But Braun, just 28 and in his sixth season in Milwaukee, will likely fight for that title if he keeps the pace hes set since winning NL Rookie of the Year after the 2007 season. For Braun though, who had already had his latest award for some time now, this day wasnt about him. It was about sharing such an honor with the fans that had stuck by him. Obviously its something Im really proud of, Braun said after the Brewers win over the Rockies on Saturday night. Its exciting to have an opportunity to share that moment with the fans a little bit. Its an opportunity Braun could look forward to a little more after his performance on Saturday. After going hitless since returning to Milwaukee on April 17, Braun slammed a home run and tallied two RBI in Saturdays win. Still, Braun tried his best to downplay the honor in the clubhouse. Braunie is trying to play it low, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. But its still a pretty special award. Follow Ryan Kartje on Twitter.
