Paul Maholm pitched a three-hitter in his second start for Atlanta and the Braves got two-run homers from Jason Heyward and Dan Uggla to beat the New York Mets 4-0 Friday night.
Heyward connected in the first inning to help spoil Matt Harvey's home debut with the Mets. Uggla went deep in the eighth off reliever Josh Edgin as Atlanta won for the 13th time in 16 games.
The Braves played their first in a stretch of 20 straight games, this one without Chipper Jones. The All-Star third baseman said he was out with back tightness caused by the bed in his New York hotel room.

Paul Maholm Steps Right Up and Beasts the Mets
In his second start since being traded to the Atlanta Braves, Paul Maholm shut out the Mets on Friday night, allowing just 3 hits and walking none while striking out 5.
Maholm, who had faced the minimum through 5.1 innings, needed just 95 pitches to go the distance for his 4th career shutout. He now has a 3.50 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP on the season, both of which would be career bests...

Maholm pitches Braves past Mets
NEW YORK -- Atlanta Braves catcher David Ross was a little concerned when starting pitcher Paul Maholm seemed to labor during his pregame bullpen Friday. As it turned out, it was the New York Mets who had plenty to worry about. Maholm continued his red-hot pitching by throwing a three-hit shutout and Jason Heyward and Dan Uggla each hit two-run homers as the Atlanta Braves beat...
Metstradamus The Grouch
Bad enough that Paul Maholm and his 87 mph fastball and his la-de-da slider made the Mets look like a JV high school squad tonight as he threw a complete game three-hit shutout while only throwing 36 pitches (95, if you're into accuracy). Bad enough that Matt Harvey couldn't get rewarded for pulling it together after a rough start chocked full of walks and giving up only...

Harvey, Mets shutout against Maholm & Braves in Opener
In just his fourth career Major League start, rookie sensation Matt Harvey took the mound Friday night for his first career home start in Citi Field. Many of his family and friends were in attendance as he was set to give the home crowd some good first impressions. Those impressions, however, did not come about in the first inning.
Harvey began the inning by walking center fielder...
Uggla comes to the rescue in win over Philly
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Dan Uggla hit a tiebreaking three-run double in the seventh after Tim Hudson blew a five-run lead and the Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 12-6 Wednesday night.
Ryan Howard's three-run homer off Hudson during a five-run fifth tied it at 6, but the wild card-leading Braves scored four runs after Antonio Bastardo (2-4) got the first two outs in...
Game Preview: Braves @ Mets
The Mets look to improve off of yesterdays win as the suddenly extremely successful Braves come into town. The Braves have been lurking all season but in the last month they have really turned it on catching the Nationals as they can. Matt Harvey gets the nod tonight as he goes up against Paul Maholm.
Matt Harvey makes his Citi Field debut, and maybe just as important, his National...
Cubs' offense goes south during 1-11 stretch
There are new faces all over Wrigley Field, but the results are starting to have an old, familiar look. And that's not good. The Chicago Cubs fell 3-0 to the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. And while many observers felt pitching would be a problem after the trades of Ryan Dempster and Paul Maholm and the elbow injury to Matt Garza, it's the hitting that's been the biggest...
Mets vs. Braves: Series Preview
It would be an understatement to say the Mets have been disappointing so far in the second half. It’s time to see what’s in store for them this weekend against the Braves.
This is a series between two teams going in completely different directions.
The Braves are playing some of their best baseball of the series, going 12-3 over their last 15 games. What about those Mets? Well...
Do you think any Braves licked the Liberty Bell after our series win in Philly?
I will always hear "Philly" in Marshall Ericksen voice. Always. (If you don't watch How I Met Your Mother, you can give this episode a try to hear Marshall/Jason Segal sing about Philly.) Also, please looks at these great photos from the series win! (some sent by a friend, most are news service photos)
My girl Gena was at the game and snapped this - "Jason stole...
