The Atlanta Braves activated veteran third baseman Chipper Jones from the 15-day disabled list, the team announced Sunday.

Jones, who has announced he will retire after 19 years with the Braves, had been suffering from a left leg bruise. He was back in the third spot in the batting order against the Toronto Blue Jays.

He was hitting .307 with five homers and 24 RBIs before he missed three weeks with the bruise. He was scheduled for a three-game rehabilitation assignment with Low Class A Rome (Ga.) over the weekend, but stayed there only two games.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez insisted him playing those two games because he was concerned whether Jones would have the stamina to play nine innings in the field.

"It was never about the at-bats," Gonzalez says.

The Braves made room on the roster by sending outfielder Jose Constanza to Class AAA Gwinnett (Ga.).
