ATLANTA (AP) -- The Atlanta Braves activated Ben Sheets from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday, and he will pitch out of the bullpen for the first time in his career.
He was on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation for three weeks.
Sheets lost his third straight start Aug. 23 at San Francisco, dropping to 4-4 with a 3.54 ERA in eight starts.
Sheets has started all 249 regular-season games in his career. He said before the Braves played Washington on Saturday that he has made three relief appearances in the All-Star game.
The Braves signed Sheets to a minor league contract July 1. The former Milwaukee ace beat the New York Mets 6-1 on July 15 in his first game since 2010.
Sheets has been on the disabled list eight times in his career. He is 94-96 with a 3.78 ERA in 10 seasons.

No win for Medlen, Braves victorious anyway
ATLANTA The confidence never left Kris Medlen.
Not when he had Tommy John surgery.
Not when he missed nearly an entire season while rehabbing his right elbow.
And not when he started this season in the Braves' bullpen.
That's just how he thinks, how he attacks life.
It's not cockiness or arrogance. He just thinks he can beat you.

Happy Kris Medlen Day, Braves Fans, But Are you Nervous Yet?
With 2011 still painfully fresh in their minds and an eerily similar position in the standings, the 2012 Atlanta Braves have to be at least a little nervous about where they stand in relation to the playoffs. I know it took a historic collapse and one of the most dramatic nights in baseball history to see the Wild Card lead finally disappear in 2011, the 2012 standings look very...
Minor, Braves complete sweep of Nats
ATLANTA (AP) -- The Atlanta Braves gave themselves a glimmer of hope in the NL East.
Hey, after what happened to these guys a year ago, they're not giving up on chasing down the first-place Washington Nationals.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Kris Medlen struck out a career-high 13 and the Atlanta Braves pulled out a 2-1 victory over the Washington Nationals when Andrelton Simmons scored on a throwing error in the ninth inning Friday night.

Braves swept by Brew Crew, final series against Nats
After sweeping the Mets, nobody would have imagined the Braves would in turn be swept out of Milwaukee. But it happened and all the Braves can do is move forward, shooting for a Wild Card spot.
Some interesting, sometimes aggravating things happened in Milwaukee. The Braves scored only 3 runs in 3 games. Scores from each of the 3 games add to the Braves record of having scored two...

From 8.5 games back, the Braves’ hopes of overtaking the Nationals for the division title are dwindling; nevertheless, this will be an all-important series for both teams.

Braves-Marlins Preview
By sweeping a series from the NL East leaders, the Atlanta Braves have managed to stay in the conversation for the division crown.
A far more realistic way to make the playoffs is securing the NL's first wild card, and a series with the last-place Miami Marlins should help with that endeavor, especially with Tim Hudson set to pitch.
