PLAYERS: Brandon Beachy
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves
So far, the recovery of Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Brandon Beachy has gone smoothly. That continued yesterday, as Beachy threw 29 pitches during an extended spring training contest, his first game since undergoing Tommy John surgery 11 months ago. Beachy threw 29 pitches during the contest, according to David O’Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The right-hander’s fastball registered at between 92 and 93 mph, roughly where he was before the procedure. After yesterday’s successful outing, Beachy’s next step will be to start for the Braves’ Triple-A affiliate on Sunday. He’ll then require five more minor league starts – roughly the equivalent of a spring training – before the Braves consider activating him from the disabled list. At his current pace, Beachy could return to Atlanta’s rotation around the end of June. While this generally has a way of working itself out, the Braves will face a decision when Beachy is eligible to be activated. Their starting rotation is currently full and performing fairly well, and there isn’t a clear spot to be made for Beachy. It would appear most likely that Julio Teheran is the one to fall from the starting five to make room for Beachy, who would then join Mike Minor, Kris Medlen, Paul Maholm and Tim Hudson. Braves Schedule Has Been an Ass

The Braves have had a difficult early season schedule After starting out 12-1, the Braves are now only 22-18 on the season, and have won only 10 of their last 27 games.  When you look closer at the numbers it is a mixed bag. The Braves are 11-3 on the season against teams that are sub .500, and only 11-15 against teams with winning records.  So they are the bully who is beating...

D-backs face nemesis Hudson in series finale

It's a safe bet that the last person the struggling Diamondbacks' offense wants to see right now is Tim Hudson, who has dominated the club throughout his career. Although aside from the series opener, the Braves have had a tough time scoring runs recently as well. Hudson looks to remain unbeaten against the D-backs as the visiting Braves hope to avoid a fifth defeat in...

Jonny Venters has second Tommy John surgery

I am now in second to last place. Cue the choir of angels!

I am now in second to last place. Cue the choir of angels! “Beat with a Dan Uggla Stick” has a reason to play the fantasy music in their fantasy locker room a little bit louder this week. Maybe I’m not the Houston Astros of the Fantasy Baseball world. I’m probably more of the New York Mets. Pitching has been my weakness. Strasburg has lost the plate. Vogelsong has been a...
