PLAYERS: Brandon Beachy
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves
Atlanta Braves right-handed starting pitcher Brandon Beachy is set to begin his minor league rehab assignment next week, according to David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Beachy threw a batting-practice session yesterday, and assuming his arm continues to respond well he'll throw a side session on Sunday before beginning his stint in the minors next week. Manager Fredi Gonzalez told reporters that Beachy would make six starts in the minors before being activated by the Braves. This will allow the right-hander to follow the same schedule Atlanta uses for its pitchers during spring training. Prior to sustaining his significant elbow injury -- which required Tommy John surgery -- Beachy was off to a hot start for the Braves last season. The right-hander maintained a 2.00 ERA over 13 starts before getting hurt. Now, Beachy is in the 11th month of recovery from TJ -- a procedure that usually sidelines pitchers for a year. At his current pace, Beachy's slated to return to the majors by the middle of June. Once he becomes an activation candidate, the Braves will have a decision to make regarding the makeup of their starting rotation. These things tend to have a way of working themselves out, but Atlanta currently sports a staff that includes four arms with ERAs at or below 3.83 -- including Mike Minor, Paul Maholm, Kris Medlen and Tim Hudson. At this point, rookie Julio Teheran is the team's fifth starter. Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?

Maurico Cabrera and Lucas Sims: Big Braves Arms
