PLAYERS: Brian McCann
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves
Evan Gattis' tenure as the Atlanta Braves' starting catcher may soon come to an end.  Perennial All-Star Brian McCann is on the way back.  And he proved that in a big way yesterday.  The Braves' catcher started his first rehab game yesterday and homered twice. David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution says McCann is expected to have 9-12 rehab games before rejoining the Braves.  This will give Gattis time to prove whether the first two weeks of the season are indicative of what he can truly be or if the last two weeks are a better reflection of his talents.  McCann is a known commodity.  He may have an injury history now that could become problematic, but the Braves know he can hit.  And he showed that yesterday in his first Class-A Rome rehab assignment when he homered twice. Gattis came on strong in McCann's absence to start the season.  However, he has faltered a bit over the last couple weeks.  Since April 12th, Gattis has seen his batting average drop from .391 to .246.  His slugging percentage has dropped from .826 to .607.  Gattis may simply be experiencing the normal ups and downs of the season, but he may not be given the opportunity to show what he can do over the long haul. When McCann returns he will take over starting catching duties. The Braves will likely find a place for Gattis to get at-bats, but those at-bats will surely not be as plentiful as they are now.  For Braves fans this could be a good thing if McCann produces.  However, it could affect the team negatively if Gattis is the real deal and loses playing time.  Regardless, it's hard to deny McCann's talents. The 29-year old McCann was a picture of consistency until his shoulder started acting up.  The injury caused him troubles throughout the 2012 season and eventually led to surgery in October.  He was trying to get back for Opening Day, but his shoulder just wouldn't allow it.  If he is fully healthy now, though, the team hopes he can get back to what he was.  From 2006-2011, McCann made the National League's All-Star team in each year.  He hit 20 or more home runs in five out of six of those years.  Overall, McCann is a career .279/.351/.475 hitter. Atlanta Braves Update 4/27

McCann hit two home runs last night in his first rehab game. With last night’s loss Atlanta no longer has the best record in the major leagues.  That distinction is now owned by the Texas Rangers. The Braves not only lost last night, but they did it in grand style.  The 10-0 loss was the worst defeat since May 16, 2009 when the Braves were pasted 12-0 by the Diamondbacks. After...

He's doing so well this year. Anyway, you know the drill: vote early, vote often. ♡  In case you missed JHey's tweet about his surgery, you can read it here. I especially liked this part, because...

Braves take series in tundra, prepare for Tigers

The Braves knew that going into Colorado they were going to be facing tough weather. However, they had no idea that Colorado would bring a postponed game, a doubleheader, and the loss of right fielder Jason Heyward to a burst appendix. With game 1 postponed due to snow flurries and poor visibility, the Braves and Rockies squared off in a doubleheader Tuesday with a game time temperature...

Hottest Upton on planet? It ain't Kate

We hear the justifications every year, when stars struggle early in their debut seasons with new teams: He's adjusting ... He's pressing ... He's settling in ... He's trying to do too much ... It's not easy to change divisions/leagues/cities/positions. Then there's Justin Upton. In his first month as an Atlanta Brave, he's been the best player on the...
