PLAYERS: Peter Moylan
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves

Picimg_mlb_apr_19_b095
The Atlanta Braves non-tendered Peter Moylan a couple months ago due to his increasing salary and his injuries. He has been a fan favorite for the Braves. (If you are not following him on Twitter, I would recommend it. He is very entertaining). The Braves had expressed interest in bringing him back, but they could not do so at the $2 million + he was set to make, because of budgetary constraints and his injuries. He was recovering from shoulder surgery that sidelined him late last year. This came on the heals of a back injury that he battled early on. The deal is a minor league deal worth $1 million on a prorated basis based on time served on the major league roster in 2012. It also has incentives built into the contract.

Are the Waves of Pitching Talent Breaking?

When I wrote about the Braves’ pitching depth last year, I mentioned that the best thing about the Braves’ pitching depth was that it was coming in waves. Almost a year later, it’s time to re-examine the starting rotation and ask whether or not the depth is still there. We’ve already seen some turnover this off-season, and we even expect a little more. Derek Lowe was...

Braves reach deals with Bourn, Jurrjens

The Atlanta Braves have avoided arbitration by agreeing to one-year contracts with outfielder Michael Bourn, starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens and reliever Eric O'Flaherty. Terms of the deals announced Tuesday haven't been released. Bourn, who made $4.4 million last year, gave the Braves a much-needed leadoff hitter when he was acquired from Houston in July just ahead of the...

Dan Uggla Is Weird, Man

To say that last season was a roller coaster for Dan Uggla would be a compliment to any roller coaster. After a disastrous start that saw him hitting .170 at the beginning of June and under .200 until July 27th, Uggla went on a 33-game hitting streak that saw his average climb to .237. The awful start coined the term #Struggla, and he was a punchline until the hitting streak really...

Braves sign Bourn, Jurrjens, O'Flaherty to contracts

The Atlanta Braves avoided arbitration and agreed to one-year deals with outfielder Michael Bourn, righthander Jair Jurrjens and left-handed reliever Eric O'Flaherty on Tuesday. Bourn, who saw his salary raise from $4.4 million to $6.845 on Tuesday, led the National League for the third straight season with 61 stolen bases. Jurrjens, who went from $3.25 million to $5.5 million...

Tommy Hanson Player Projection No. 86

Key Stats: The Atlanta Braves have a history of churning out quality pitchers and Hanson is no exception. He doesn't have the win total you would expect from an ace pitcher, but at 25, and not yet having pitched 3 full seasons in the majors, you have to be blown away at the other numbers Hanson has put up. His career 3.28 ERA is backed up by a career 3.46 FIP. His K/9 each season...

Braves Make Quick Work With Arbitration Players

I posted a review of the players that were eligible for arbitration on Monday afternoon. The deadline to pass figures was yesterday at noon. The Atlanta Braves had three players remaining that they needed to work out a deal with by yesterday afternoon. They signed Eric O’Flaherty on Monday night to a one year deal worth $2.49 million contract for one year. The deal was almost...

Braves ink Moylan to Minor League deal

Peter Moylan will have a chance to prove he is healthy and regain his spot in the Braves bullpen. Moylan has signed a Minor League contract with the Braves and accepted an invitation to compete for a job in Spring Training.

MLB’s Top 10 Right-handed Pitchers

MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo is rolling out his Top 10 prospects at each position beginning with right-handed pitchers. The 2011 list featured the American League Rookie of the Year and seven of the 10 pitched in the big leagues. Once again, this year’s Top 10 right-handed pitchers features no Mets, but the top pick comes from the NL East’ Julio Teheran, Braves...
