CINCINNATI (AP) -- Rookie catcher Devin Mesoraco capped a series full of homers with his first career grand slam on Thursday night, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 6-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
The Reds completed their first four-game sweep of the Braves in Cincinnati since 1980 at Riverfront Stadium. They've won six straight, their longest winning streak since August 2010 when they started their push toward the NL Central title.
The teams combined for 16 homers -- 13 solo shots -- accounting for 21 of the 24 runs in the series.
Mesoraco connected off Kris Medlen, who relieved Randall Delgado (2-5) with the bases loaded in the sixth. Drew Stubbs added a solo shot for Cincinnati.
Homer Bailey (3-3) gave up four hits in six innings, including Michael Bourn's two-run homer. Bailey got back-to-back wins for the first time this season, coming off a victory in Yankee Stadium on Saturday.
Logan Ondrusek pitched the ninth for his second save in three chances, giving up ...

What would benefit the Reds and Aroldis Chapman the most? Chapman as a starter or Chapman as a reliever? It's been a controversial argument for a few years now amongst the GABP corridors. And now thanks to a 6-game winning streak and the incredible dominance being displayed by Chapman, the national media are chiming in with their two cents as well.

Here's another look at Devin Mesoraco's first career grand slam from Thursday night. His 4-run jack helped propel the Reds to a 6-3 victory and 4-game sweep over the Braves and thus, launching them past the Cardinals for first place in the NL Central.
Thom Brennaman had the call.
Pitches: Corcino has a fastball that works in the low 90’s and can touch 95-96 MPH. He throws a good slider in the low 80’s and a solid change up.
Mechanics: Very similar to the older Johnny Cueto before he began turning his back to home plate.
The game profiled below is the game from May 20, 2012. Corcino went 6 innings and allowed 2...
The first place Reds! All they had to do to get here was sweep a first place Atlanta Braves team in 4 games. Yeah, a 4 game sweep of the braves to launch your Cincinnati Reds into first. A half game above the Cardinals and another 4 games above 3rd place Houston.
The Braves have lost their last 6 games at GABP. This alone is outstanding. The Braves have been a thorn in the side...

All good things must come to an end, and that applied to the Cincinnati Reds’ winning streak yesterday. Despite sending out their best starter against a Colorado Rockies team that hasn’t been very good this year, the Reds lost, ending the streak at 6.
Johnny Cueto started and had his second bad start out of his last three. Hopefully it’s not a harbinger of things to come....
The Reds purchased the contract of former MLB outfielder Joey Gathright from the Bridgeport Bluefish on Thursday, according to The Hour. Gathright has been assigned to Triple-A Louisville.
The 31-year old appeared in 23 games for the Bluefish this season, posting a .240 batting average with two homers, 13 RBI, 20 runs scored, and nine stolen bases.
Gathright has spent...
A Reds win and a Cardinals loss on Thursday allowed the red-hot Reds to move into sole possession of first place--a position they haven't been in since Opening Day (April 5th).
Cincinnati looks to continue its hold on the division lead as they welcome the Colorado Rockies (16-27) to town for a 3-game set this weekend.
Todd Frazier hit a one-out homer in the ninth inning Wednesday night, extending the Cincinnati Reds' best surge of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
The Reds won their fifth in a row, leaving them five games over .500 (24-19) for the first time this season.

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Braves third baseman Chipper Jones received a base as a memento of his final trip to Cincinnati.
The Reds honored Jones before the final game of their series on Thursday. They've used bases with Jones' name on the side in all four games. Reds third baseman Scott Rolen presented Jones with one of the bases in a frame.

Do NOT injure my boy. I might not personally be able to take you down, but I have some very muscley man friends and girl friends with very sharp fingernails.
(This made me feel a little better, though...)

Rockies at Reds - I was shocked the Money Line was only -150 considering Johnny Cueto is on the hill, the Reds are on fire having won six in a row, the Reds are at home, and Colorado isn't that good. Feels like a sucker bet, but I am all over it. Cueto is simply one of the best starters in baseball right now with a 5-1 record and an incredible 1...
