Atlanta Braves general manager Frank Wren said he doesn't expect righthander Derek Lowe to be in the team's starting rotation next season.
Lowe capped off a miserable season by losing his final five starts to finish with a 9-17 record and 5.05 ERA.
The 38-year-old righthander had won at least 12 games in each of the previous nine seasons.
"Right now, the way we project, I'm not sure Derek would be one of our top five starters," Wren said. "I'll just leave it at that."
Lowe still had one year on his contract that will pay him $12 million. He is 166-146 with a career 3.94 ERA.
