Semi-annual post on BJ Upton, the head scratcher

There seems to have been two concurrent and recurrent posts heading into the tenth season of writing this blog. The first was already avoided when Big Papi signed early with the Red Sox. That made this year's "Should the Red Sox sign him," post unnecessary. The second is a yearly or every other year pondering of B.J. Upton. Perhaps, after the year that his brother...

While the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies are viewed as the frontrunners to sign Upton, the Cincinnati Reds and maybe even the Washington Nationals also have interest in the free agent, reports David O’Brien of the...

B.J. Upton Rumors: Free Agent Expected to Sign Soon

B.J. Upton can be many things.  He is a versatile player, that's for sure.  In the free agent market, he can be many things as well.  He can be an upgrade, a lateral replacement, or an injury filler.  If he is the latter, the team signing him must make sure they want Upton as their replacement long-term, and they have to make the decision fast. According to Marc Topkin...

Unmasking the mystery team: B.J. Upton

It happens every off-season, teams get into a frenzied bidding situation for a high profile free agent.  Just when we think we know who he is going to sign with- BAM!  They strike out of nowhere!  The mystery team!!! B.J. Upton expected to sign with new team this week

Most highly-coveted free agents will wait until the Winter Meetings (held in early December) to begin seriously considering their options. But a few pieces of the off-season puzzle typically fall into place a little early. And this year will apparently be no different. Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times writes in his Sunday column…

PN Mailbag Part Deux: Third, Utley, Upton

There was a lot of Phils’ news and rumors this week: the Phils were in on Josh Hamilton before they were out on Hamilton, they were finally linked to a bullpen arm, protected some Minor Leaguers while exposing others, and just as Ryan Dinger and I offered our opinions if the Phillies should make a play for the recently designated Chone Figgins, the Phillies signed a third baseman...

Dugout Digest - Cyber Monday!

This year on Black Friday, we didn't see any GMs make any big moves for great, low prices, though the Red Sox did overpay for Jonny Gomes on Wednesday. Will we see anything today, on Cyber Monday, or throughout the rest of the week? Perhaps. BJ Upton will reportedly be making a decision on where he'll play in 2013 and beyond this week, and the finalists are reportedly the...
