The Atlanta Braves do not have to part ways with Joe Mather after he cleared waivers on Tuesday. There was some concern that he may be claimed, but those fears were put to rest.
The Atlanta Braves put Joe Mather on waivers after a terrible spring that saw him hit .137 with a .214 OBP and a .176 slugging percentage. He was able to play all three outfield positions, first base and third base.
The Braves were excited when they claimed Mather off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals. They had tried to acquire him 2-3 years ago, but were unsuccessful. Mather then battled hand and wrist injuries that hurt his production.
The Braves still view him as a part of their plan. He is headed to AAA to work on his hitting and timing. This will not be the last time we hear from Mather.
